They are often times in areas of the city that have the most expensive land, or are ripe for development.

I’m willing to wager after 2-3 generations, most families lose track of their history and graves are eventually forgotten and never visited.

Are cemeteries a relic of the past, and a misuse of land that can be repurposed for a more valuable contribution to the community?

I have a grave concern over this issue. People are, however, dying to get in them.

My mom's grave doesn't even had a headstone on it. She died so suddenly and we were in such shock, we winged most of the funeral. I now wish we had just cremated her.

I hate funeral homes and cemeteries.

I'm going cremation, I don't like them. No one is going to give a shite about me after my kid is gone.

You really have to be historically important to warrant it to me. Even todays celebrities people won't give a shite about in a generation or two.

It kinda made sense back when families lived generations on the same land, just too many people in the world moving around it too much for it to make any kind of sense.

They will be one day, half of New York City was once a graveyard.

others have been forgotten and overlaid with some pretty surprising new uses, including playgrounds, swimming pools, luxury condos, and even a hotel named for the current occupant of the White House.

I personally think so. I always wanted to be cremated, but now I think I want to be blown up like the mom in AZ

Agreed.

But when I die, I think I would like my remains scattered over Disneyland, The Happiest Place On Earth!

Also, I don't want to be cremated.

Speak for yourself. I still visit my family's plot, it goes back 4 generations.

But I agree, I think cremation is the way to go

They should save space and bury people vertically.

I’ve always been amazed at the amount of people in history who have died and the small number of cemeteries that exist.

You can still do graveyards and cremation. Just put the ern in a locked trophy case like thing. You can still visit, and fit way more people into a smaller space.

I don't really see what's wrong with cremation, some peeps are against it. Your body rotting in the ground sounds way worse when you really think about it.

I am the only family member that has been to our grandparents graves since they were put there 40 years ago. I haven’t been since right after Katrina. Terrible but true. Cremate me and spread some ashes where my chickens scratch,a little in the woods, some in my favorite duck pond and a little where I fish sac-a-lait.
