Spent some time playing ping pong this past weekend. Ran up against some cocky teenagers talking smack about their ping pong game. Turns out, they all served illegally. When I tried teach them the proper serve, they couldn't figure out how to throw the ball up and then hit it...they eventually scoffed at the idea.

Why are there so many people that serve illegally in ping pong? Why isn't there more awareness on this subject?

Pretty sad you were getting your arse whooped by a bunch of lousy teenagers in an ageless sport.

I've given literally zero thoughts to the illegal serve in ping pong until I saw this headline.

There's no point in even playing if you can't serve correctly.

Illegally as in not across the table?

Nothing pisses me off more than an illegal serve in ping pong. Not financial insolvency, not stubbing my toe, not the death of innocents from starvation and drought. The illegal serve in ping pong is what truly draws my ire.

And I'm being generally serious here.

More like serving it right out of your fingers or putting the ball to the paddle in the palm of your hand prior to the serve to generate spin. It's chickenshit (no offense, Chicken).

Do you bounce the ball on your side of the table to serve in table tennis?

Are we talking toss up the ball and smash it down a la Andre Agassi on the hardcourt, Chicken? Or a slight little lob that one swings a forehand through to make the serve?

I despise illegal serves.

All of my heroes have been table tennis players.

Toss ball in air, hit with paddle and bounce on your side first, over net, bounce on their side.

Are you suggesting that people's reflexes don't slow down as they get older?

Can you elaborate? Where the holding the ball against the paddle or bouncing it on the table and then hitting it directly over the net?

And, yes, both piss me off. Although, IMO, holding the ball against the paddle is a greater offense.
