Oh, Good Lord. How could anyone drink Dr. Tichenor's?
That shite could peel the hide off a buffalo.

It is shocking to see the things an addict will do to get that fix.

Going to meetings.

Serious question and it's not about the potential of getting laid. The stress of life has caught up to me and I now drink 4-6 craft beers a night then maybe a glass of wine at dinner. All my adult life, I stayed away from alcohol Monday thru Thursday but that is not the case anymore. Would I be looked "down" on if I went to meetings or am I candidate to go to meetings? I need to back off of drinking but I really enjoy it AND it does help with the stress. Again, serious question.

Anyone can go to Open meetings. You can sit and listen and will learn a lot. Give it a try.

You will feel welcome there.

Your drinking sounds manageable. I went thru a time like that. Wasn't working out at all. Kids, bills, work. No life. Felt trapped and needed something I could decide to do. And that was drinking too much.

Nowadays, during the week it may be nothing for several days. Then a glass of red wine with Italian food. Or maybe a martini after a 10-11 hour day. But on the weekends, I will enjoy myself at brunch, tailgating, with friends, on the water or cooking and grilling. That's my life and it seems to be working.

You will not be looked down upon!! Go online, look up AA meetings in your area, pick one. Go in and listen, you don't have to participate. Just listen!! If anything people share, or talk about has occurred in your life?? If you enjoy a couple beers a night, a glass of wine too? Prolly not a alcoholic?

I would guess that many are in the same boat. Some keep it under control and others may spiral out of control. I enjoy a drink 5-6 nights a week. However it's usually just one or two. I like sipping on a good bourbon. Helps take the edge off a long stressful day.

In rehab, the lack of booze turns into incessant coffee and cigarette consumption. People will pound coffee the entire day, and smoke like 3 packs. It's gross

Exactly. Switch one thing for another. OR they become fanatically religious to the point where they think they are the Pope or something. Everything to the extreme.

In rehab, I guess I was so LUCKY to be alive I was happy to be there. I did notice the coffee/cigarettes. One thing doctors in rehab did tell us was to don't stop smoking cigarettes, it was a release of some sorts.

That's a whole lot of beer to drink every day, esp if it's 6-8% abv. that shite will catch up with you in many ways.

it does help with the stress
psychiatrists and therapists call this self medicating

Maybe you should look into alternative methods of stress relief, like meditation and mindfulness

I had a daily alcohol problem pretty bad for a couple years, but therapy helped a lot. I drink probably once a week now

Depends on the person. Quitting cold turkey can sometimes be fatal depending on how much you have been consuming.

A bad detox that is not monitored within a hospital can lead to a stroke, or worse.
