I recently found out there was suppose to be a navy base in Lake Charles but Secretary of State Dick Cheney halted it. LINK

Any others come to mind?

What if the old money people hadn't stagnated growth for the past 50+ years is the real and only question

No way should both the Beaumont area and the Lafayette region be double the size of LC. Especially considering the refining capacity and natural resources but here we are.

I can’t really blame anyone for not wanting to do something in Louisiana. Even Bucees was hesitant.

What if Hurricane Laura and Delta hadn't hit back to back? Really felt like a town in the upswing till it got knocked on its arse. This was also during Covid which didn't help.

If SFP had never been born, we wouldn't have 477,635 posts on this board.

What if that I-10 bridge collapses?

This is what I think as I drive over that SOB.

I get closer to God on the drive to peak than I do in church.

I get the joke but there was a 162-acre Jean Lafitte theme park that never came to fruition

quote:

In the early 1960s, one Lake Charles businessman had a big dream. Albert J. Kurtz wanted to build a giant amusement park here that would rival Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas.

The park was to be called Jean LaFitte Pirateland, and it was to be built just east of Lake Charles on 162 acres of land at the intersection of Goodman Road and I-10, at a cost of $10 million.

Kurtz formed the Pirateland Development Co. Inc.to make his dream a reality. There were detailed plans. A board of directors was organized. A prospectus was printed to lure potential investors. There were artists’ renderings of what the park would look like. Stock was sold. Excitement for the park grew.

ETA: Also, no telling how much bigger LC would be if Chennault was still an air force base and didn't close in the 60s

Same as Shreveport. What if Texas legalized gambling. Both these towns would be bigger shitholes than ever.

LC will hurt, but not like Shreveport will. LC will still have all the refining and all of the new LNG facilities. Shreveport will only have crime and despair
