Sundance Wyoming, right on the edge of the Black Hills, Badlands National Park, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Devil's Tower, Sturgis, and Deadwood SD. All of these historical sights are within an hour or so.

Great hunting, hiking, and most of the outdoor sports. The bad side is there are some cold winters and the snow can get deep there.

It gets humid at the worst times. Deep Summer and Deep Winter.

Do not go to Flagstaff, AZ.

Cost of living there has gone up steeply the past decade and will continue to do so. The mid sized university there is expanding enrollment but not student housing. This is making housing costs go way up - and you will not get your money's worth - not even close. Cost of everything in Flagstaff is high - fuel, food, housing, everything.

Prescott, AZ is a nice area. There's a VA hospital there, an Embry-Riddle campus, cost of living is OK. Cottonwood, AZ is not far from Sedona or Flagstaff, cost of living way better than Flagstaff. Big casino but that's about all there is there. But the area is expanding a little bit some there have been some decent housing areas recently built.

Take a look at Salem, OR. I was there for a short time, quite a few years ago. Nice little town and cost of living was very low.

If you are going to be on TRICARE, why not be close to somewhere like Luke AFB? Or Holloman or DM? I don't consider those areas "desert" but some people may feel like it is.

There are quite a few areas in Utah as well.

I'm kind of surprised by this. I thought highest humidity would be centered around New Orleans, but it's actually the Port Arthur Beaumont area. BTW Georgia is no where on the top 100 cities. This is cities with 50,000+ so that might explain Destin, or other South Georgia cities being absent.

Yeah even Lake Charles is worse than New Orleans. New Orleans, BR, and Shreveport are fairly similar.

Sabago Lake, Maine.

Beautiful summers, close to snow skiing, 30 minutes from Portland, and about 2 1/2 hours from Boston. The people there were very nice as well.

Maybe I'm used to associating heat with humidity living in south LA. I loved the weather there in the summer. It was at worst usually like 80 degrees

Lake Tahoe. Live on Nevada side, no state income tax (maybe not super significant if you are retired).

As someone who was in Vegas in June not that long ago, it was still hot as f&%k. Sideways move at best.

It's like going from a sauna to an oven. There's nothing pleasant about the midday weather in Nevada in July.
