Or he appreciates quality vehicles but is too financially responsible to spend that much money on a luxury item

I'd be wary of those pre-2005 (and even up to 2008) Boxsters - IMS bearing failure is a real thing.

Even 911s had the issue.

Those will cost you a hell of a lot more than the initial cost....

Would not recommend. That Twin Turbo is bound to be running into some $700-1500 problems or repairs soon.

nearly pulled the trigger on a '88 BMW M3,

Bought this for my wife and even without the m3 under the hood is the funnest car I've ever owned. Anything that breaks costs like $30 to fix and takes 10 minutes.

Highly recommend the e30 for a fun date car that is dead simple to work on and will last forever.

I have an 09 528i with three pedals and it's (knock on wood) an exceptional vehicle. Not sure I'd get a slush box or a turbo (of that era) and try to put 250k miles on it.

I have to agree with you there.

Yours should be the most well sorted out version of an E60 though. Heard some horror stories about the Early V8 models and our local independent mechanic mentioned some complications with the first twin turbo 6 cylinder models.

Has anyone mentioned how awful an idea it is to pay 15k for a BMW/Mercedes with 100k miles? You are going to pay 5k in fixing shite the first year you own it.

The answer for me though is a 2013~ TSX with a 3.5, or a 2011~ ES 350.

Another under-the-radar car is the early 2000s Lexus is300. Probably the best interior Lexus ever designed. My son bought a 5 speed version and it's fun to ride with him. He wanted it because of the 2jz motor.

Not under $15K...but you can find for under $20K.

2012 Hyundai Equus

They are big, luxurious, reliable and will go 0-60 in less than 6 seconds. Not bad for just a tad under 5,000 pounds. Of course...you will want to keep your gas card handy.

Sweet tape player.

The only thing cool about the interior on that is the chronograph inspired gauge cluster.

Shiny metal shifter is dumb.

Should have gotten him an E46.

Hey, I just 'got it'. My wife's been driving it for the last 5 years...but finally my plan worked. Now I have to get all the little details sorted.

I had one of these in 2006. Super fun cars to drive, and you could get one in outstanding condition in your budget.
