No point in spending 50K+ on a new vehicle for it only to depreciate 50% in a few years.
Exactly. Well I mean this is the OT where over the top spending is not a concern.

Has anyone mentioned how awful an idea it is to pay 15k for a BMW/Mercedes with 100k miles? You are going to pay 5k in fixing shite the first year you own it
Most 08' CLK550's I've been seeing is 10-12K depending how many miles. CLK350 with 50K miles are well under $10K.
So not $15K. Plus unless you're taking everything to the dealership, its not going to cost 5K to fix anything.
I had 15K in the the thread title so others can list cars they like and not necessarily limited to just bmw/mercedes.

So you’re poor, but you want people to think you’re rich?
With depreciation, I'll never finance another brand new car off the showroom floor again.
Yeah, that used car in a few years may have some mileage, but condition trumps mileage IMO

keep driving what you're driving and put that 10k into your 401k lol

Using this logic, doesn't the new car make more sense?

I'd be wary of those pre-2005 (and even up to 2008) Boxsters - IMS bearing failure is a real thing.
The good thing about that is you an find low mileage boxtsers cheap with blown motors and put a 911 motor in it.

Is this where yall start off with the "new car is a bad investment" bit?

this thread. there's a reason why an 8 year old porsche cayenne or range rover is $10,000 now.
...and it isn't because you won the 'luck' lottery.
if it sounds too good to be true....

Only if you will relentlessly try to justify the terrible financial decisions you have made with your car/truck purchases.

Ok, I'll just need you to foolishly look at a vehicle purchase as any type of investment first.

i bought a $35k honda minivan one time.
my ex ruined it. within 3 years she had wrecked it 4 times and the last time it was totalled.
learned my lesson about women and new vehicles at that time.
NO THANK YOU, i'll stick with my 'last century' 4runner.

Like always, you'll need a strawman to argue with.

Maybe you just need to teach your wife how to drive

You're right. None of the anti new car people ever say the phrase "bad investment" when making their case. Total fabrication on my part.

Sounds like your ex is a shitty driver, but that would've happened in a used car too.
