Have been chased by those bastards a bunch, and hurts like hell, when they catch you.

My brother and I stepped on an underground hornets nest while exploring the woods as children. It was a very bad day indeed.

And I thought the one we dug up was big, but it was 1/5 the size of yours.

Thanks for the picture, and no thanks for the nightmares it's going to inspire.

When I was like 8, a friend and I were horsing around on some leaves under a big tree. I had rolled around on some leaves and felt a sting on the back of my knee.

Got up, and had over a 100 (at least!) jackets/hornets on my sweatshirt. It was a shite show lol!

Got stung like 4 times and my friend about 9 times. We actually were lucky to be honest.

I'd imagine the nest under ground looked just like the pic in the OP

Yep, just like a stepped condo. I got attacked a few years ago. After that, I got a quart of gas and doused those mofos. Dug up the nest, set on fire. Have not built in the same location again.

He didn't. He got the picture off the internet.

Here is the caption

Also regarding both jackets and hornets, both those motherfrickers are the meanest spawns of the devil there is. They are relentless and don't stop.

Stepped on a nest another time playing golf, a few of us got stung and took off running. I shite you not, after 200 yards away, they were still on us like savages.

This is true. My daughter and I started running as soon as we both got hit once. We were in the far back corner of the yard. By the time we reached the house, those bastards had gotten up our shorts and into our t-shirts. We were stripping as fast as we could as soon as we hit the garage. Both of us got stung multiple times. When we got into the house, we had a small swarm inside.

Bastards.

My summer job in college was golf course grounds maintenance. We had a mentally challenged guy on the crew and 4 of us got assigned to trap duty. That meant putting a fresh edge on traps.

So mental guy hits a yellow jacket next in side of trap with a weed eater. The other three of us haul arse and run about 100 yards in a full sprint.

We turn around and mental guy is still in the trap in a traditional boxing stance and taking form punches at the swarm around him.

We had to go get his arse out and take him to the hospital. 64 stings.

Whoa, big nest.

The ones we've found usually have two entrances. I find both, fill one with expanding foam, then give it time to set and the jackets time to settle down. Then I set off an insecticide bomb and cram it into the other entrance to trap them inside. That way they can't fly out, like the first time I tried to use a bomb. I don't think I ever moved that fast before.

PS - That first try taught me to always wear a hooded slicker suit, gloves, and goggles.

I rolled over a hole in the ground nest on my mower. Felt like a half dozen pellet shots on my back almost in rapid succession. I jumped off the mower, ripped off the shirt and ran swinging it around. They left me alone after about 50 feet.

I then used Binoculars to find them hovering over their opening a half hour later. Made not and filled the hole with gasoline after dark. Next day saw a few hovering about 5 feet away from the first spot a day before. Got that one after dark too. May have been the other end of their nest.

Never saw a nest bigger than a softball once I dug a few up a year or so later.

Few years ago I ran over a nest while mowing, got stung 13 times> I ran inside, turned on a cold shower, felt like my skin was burning! Took a couple of Benadryl to help with the swelling. I t scouted them out and waited for dusk. Put the gas to them, no more problems. Damn those stings burn...
