I keep my AC at 74 during the day and at night. I could probably have it on 72 without it being "too cold", but 74 is perfectly fine and I typically "run hot".
Same.

All depends on house and system. I suppose humidity is the variable.

Old system was 73, new one is 70

67 when we go to sleep, 70 when we're in the house but not going to bed, 74 when we leave the house.

67 is frosty.

55% or less humidity is the answer here.

The rest of the responses are just noise

We set ours at 75 during the day, 70-72 when we get home, and 67-68 when we go to bed.

I searched “indoor humidity” and landed on this thread.

It’s currently 66^F outside with 90% humidity outside(NOLA). We have the a/c set to 68, trying to cool the house down, but the house is at 71^F but 77% humidity!!!

Is that a product of high humidity outside or is something wrong with my house? What can I do?

I'm a little reluctant to share my thoughts because I can't seem to communicate effectively or just don't have the want to, to explain my every single thought. Please take this for what it's worth. I will certainly leave a few blanks. Please fill them in yourself.

My qualifications are: I'm a Florida licensed HVAC Contractor/biz owner.

Removing humidity is one of the keys to a "cool home" to do so requires a few things.
Accurate refrigerant charge & a properly functioning metering device
A clean evaporator coil is absolutely essential, it's where the magic happens lol
A properly set fan speed.
Are a few things to start.
A clean condensing coil will contribute to removing the heat effectively.
A misnomer is Air Conditioners blow cold air. Air Conditioners do not create new or blow cold air "They condition the existing air in the home." This process is referred to as the refrigeration cycle.

Adding a dehumidifier isn't necessarily a requirement providing your system is designed/sized correctly and is in proper working order.
A variable speed Air Handler is great but if you really want to see a machine remove humidity and run efficiently pair that with a two stage or variable speed compressor. $$$ but eventually pays for itself.

I will try to keep an eye on the thread to answer any questions please be patient providing you are looking for any information.

Thanks for your reply.

The temperature has been dropping in Nola today. It’s now more humid in the house (74%) than it is outside (60%). I cant cool the house down. It’s 72 Inside and 63 outside. I’m hoping it’s temporary but how will I know that I need to call someone?

Sounds like you need to call someone right away.
I would be happy to speak with you and we may be able to get you fixed up over the phone but not sure how to exchange information & at the end of the day you still may need to speak to a company there that can serve you. The best thing I can do from Tampa is attempt to help you not get taken advantage of. Again I would be happy to speak with you providing you can figure out how to exchange contact info. You really do need to contact someone. I'm certainly interested in what you find out. I hope I can help in some fashion.

I'm comfortable anywhere between 67-74. I prefer upper 60s when sleeping.
