I didnt start this Israel sponsored thread, but our tax money probably helped contribute to it being posted.

It’s our duty as fathers to love our children…sometimes that looks like letting them learn life lessons the hard way

This...I have 2 kids, both are dyed-in-the-wool liberals that don't like Trump. People ask me how I could let this happen, because my wife and I are staunchly conservative.

I didn't "let" this happen. We encouraged them to develop their points of view based on what their values are.

My oldest has moved more to center over the years. I think having a job and her own family kinda moved her in that direction. My youngest just finished college and is still trying to figure things out.

We didn't micromanage either of them, and let them know in no uncertain terms that they are responsible for their own happiness and behavior. Choices undoubtedly have consequences. They can believe what they want to believe. They're both great people, and I'm quite proud of them.

She will eventually come running back once she runs out of money in her college fund and can’t get a good job with whatever bullshite DEI liberal arts nonsense she’s getting her degree in. Hopefully he’s smart enough to leave her arse cut off financially

This attitude isnt allowed on the internet for some reason. If your daughters are liberals they are demons

But seriously I feel like almost every family has differing political beliefs and 95% of them work fine with it. It isnt like my family's votes are gonna determine who wins any election anyway so we are basically at the mercy of people in ohio/georgia/Pennsylvania anyway. why even let it have any impact on our lives/relationships?

I don't know the full context, but this kind of sentiment implies parents feel entitled to their children agreeing with them because they met material needs.

I appreciate my parents and I disagree in a healthy way

It's kinda interesting how, at least from my personal experience, it seems the current world pushes the two genders toward different extremes.

I know a lot of women that got pushed toward this performative, social media justice warrior route....especially during COVID. They became insufferable and lash out anytime someone has even the slightest different world view from them. That includes the people that have loved and supported them for years.

On the other end, there's a guy that I was friends with that stopped talking to nearly his entire family and friend group. He hurt his back, became unemployed, and started getting heavily into political social media during all his new found free time. He got to the point where he couldn't even talk to his mom about how her day went without going into rants about trannys and things like that. Eventually, folks kinda asked him to chill out and be normal. He took that as a personal affront and now sits alone all day at home posting political memes and talking to bots online.

Clown world. And its only going to get worse.

Sounds like you have done an excellent job of rearing them. If we are being honest, MOST kids will be at odds with their parents political views, and be more in line with the flavor of the month amongst their peers. I’m reading a faith based parenting book called “Your Teen is Not Crazy”, and it has opened my eyes as to the chemical changes the adolescent mind experiences. Fwiw I have a 13 year old daughter and am having to let go of some of my “control” (as if I really ever had any). I’m willing to let her come to her own conclusions about life, but I’m going to try to live mine in a way that she maybe can emulate one day. I don’t press too hard any political agenda, but I do have open and honest conversations with her about my views on this strange world we have inherited from our ancestors.

While I am not challenging your points, it's baffling to me how a child can get so radicalized that they prioritize politics over family. Politics won't comfort you when you're troubled. Politics won't make sure you have a roof over your head, or food on the table, hug you when you're down. We've lost our way when family is secondary to who you vote for. It's sad.

Good for you. The best you can do is teach your kids how to think, not what to think.

good on you

unfortunately the progressive mindset is in and of itself perpetual discontent.

It’s heartbreaking to see loved ones fall into the trap of believing happiness is contingent of external achievements that are unattainable mirages.
