I wouldn't die since I'd just show off my skills as a field hand.

The rest of you baws are fricked.

Food won't even be a factor.

Lack of clean water will kill most, along with disease from bad water.

100% agree. The only land you own is what you can defend, and one coonass with a few guns can't defend all that much on his own.

The problem would be the masses. There would be a huge numbers of scavengers looking for victims. That's is the big problem with being prepared. There are so many unprepared people. If things stayed bad long enough they will be impossible to stop.

Then us cool kids would beat you up and take your stuff.

Then we'd make out with your moms.

You don't have to stop them necessarily, you just have to deter them from ever considering you a target.

You can achieve that by being so low key that they don't realize you are there, or killing so many of them that they move on to easier prey.

Those who hesitate to kill in the new world will soon perish. The morals of modern civilization will have to die if you are to survive TEOTWAWKI.

Without showering daily they won't be so hot.

You didn't have to know how to hunt or fish to make a living back then. Good teachers or bookkeepers generally did well, for example. Ben Franklin did great as a printer, George Washington as a surveyor, etc.

What would really kill people the most is that today most agricultural products are highly centralized and not all that easy to harvest without modern technology. Most of it would simply rot unharvested the first year for lack of the means to harvest, plus lack of transportation to distant markets.

You are right. Probably a matter of a week or so and they will be gone.

Something approaching 100% of the over 40 crowd on this board, just based on demographics I think it's a safe assumption they pretty much all have diabetes.

20% of the PT board would die of accidental gun shot wounds. Too much excitement for societal breakdown and too many guns, basically Russian roulette.

The millennials that survived would probably become (remain?) the worst people this world has ever seen.

I would do my best to get to an alpine location quickly. Maybe somewhere near current Summit County Colorado. Cooler temps, fewer pests, cleaner sources of drinking water, an elevated location to keep an eye out for those trying to do my family harm.

Doubt more than a few survive. The more I think about it, maybe 5% survive a few weeks.

Better hope more than that survive.

Have to have someone to breed with.

I can assure you that if the world goes crazy, all these young women will learn that their modern ideals and expectations amount to jack shite in the aftermath.

They'll revert to traditionalists, and have a man protect and provide for them (with them being expected to help) or they'll find themselves raped and discarded by bands of roving marauders.

It would be absolutely stunning to see how quickly folks reprioritize their lives!

If I can somehow make it up to south Arkansas where the future inlaws live, I'd be ok.

Think the farm from Walking Dead with less Zombies and Carl and more guns.

The only people that would have a shot to survive "long term", relatively speaking, would be people already living a rural, survivalist life. People that we would think kind of nuts right now.

If you live in the city or suburbs or even a rural area but still mostly reliant on modern conveniences, the fact that you go hunting or fishing on the weekends won't really mean jack shite.

The problem is that the available game will dwindle even faster than the human population's needs. You'll have to go out farther and farther as you're starving more and more, and the farther you go, the more likely you'll run across someone doing the same thing.

Where do you think all the urban folks are going to go? There will be blood. You'll have to defend your little slice of hell, and your people will be starving and sick, too.

The urban folks will remain in the city fighting over what little resources there are. Going out in to the country to scavenge wouldn't even cross their minds. Some may give it a shot, and the suburbs would probably be a war zone, but it's not going to be some zombie hoard erupting from the city to overtake the countryside.

Making the conscious decision to leave the city would take an understanding of what's at stake, what you could do to survive in the countryside, etc. We know that, but I'm telling you your average inner city urbanite's only thought is going to be shanking they guy next to him for that can of beans.
