I grew up in that neighborhood, now I haven't been back in almost 10 years but it was a nice place. Mainly a white area, mid-class. nice homes, big lots. a little older of neighborhood, if anything like I remember it I would recommend

The issue with that neighborhood is dated homes from the 70's and 80's that most people don't like the look of. They're not as nice as Tara. Most homes bought in that neighborhood will likely need a fair amount of investment to get them up to date.

Car break ins are just as bad as home (when no one is at home). Theft is theft.

As far as safety and peace of mind goes, I disagree.

If car break ins are the determining factor of where you are going to live, you won't be able to live in to many places.

Lived there in the 80s. It was like that then as well.
In 83 there was major flooding around the Chelsea/Baker intersection, as well as in the back part of the neighborhood by the canal. I don't think it has had a major problem like that since, but I cannot say one way or the other.
It is a perfect damned location and if you work in United Plaza, there is a footbridge across the canal (or, at least, there used to me).
Pine Park has bigger houses.

Dang, that'd be awesome.

I live off of Drusilla in a smaller house. With all neighborhoods there are pros and cons. Drusilla is close to almost any and everything. It is also nice that they demolished the apartment complex at the end of Drusilla and Old Hammond, I have found there are less people walking up and down Drusilla. We hope to move into a bigger home in the next few years in the Jefferson Terrace or Westminster Subdivision. The recent addition of LeBlanc's has been nice and the property adjacent to Rocco's is going to be developed into offices. I am a little worried they might four lane Drusilla one day but for now it only backs up during rush our mornings and afternoons.
Unfortunately the bad part is the schools. We are fortunate that we fall within the LaSalle school district for k-5 with (A) rating but if we were on the Westminster side we would be in Westminster Elementary which is failing (D).

It hasn't and that was the worst flood BR has had since. They have cleaned all the canal and storm drains and expanded. I don't think flooding will ever be an issue again. That 83 flood had a lot of things flooded that didn't before or since. Don's Seafood on Airline was under about 5' of water that year.
I grew up in Old Goodwood and went to school with all of those Westminister, Pine Park people. Pine Park is still nice and Westminister is like people said - just older homes with older younger mix. Great location.

Norfolk & Fleet also flooded in 86. Houses that never had water in them. I've got pics somewhere.
It turned out to be a Wards creek and blocked drainage issue that got cleared.
Im not aware of that part of the hood flooding again. Other parts as mentioned, can have issues during large gully washers.

Were you on Fleet? My wife has an old eccentric cousin on Fleet. Nice guy but he's a strange cat.
Mother in Law was on Chelsea.

We live in Jefferson Highlands inside of Jefferson Terrace and LOVE the area. Very safe. Only concerns would be schools and or flooding but I don't need flood insurance in my neighborhood.

Pine Park is nice, the surrounding streets are dumpy. Who knows who your neighbor would be? Some shite back there.

Does he ride in a scooter chair and have a little dog? If so, your description is spot on.
We live on Blecker and really like it. Great location, convenient to anywhere in town. Quiet neighborhood. You asked about the extra patrols- we passed a crime prevention district a coupe years back its about $100/yr if I remember right. It is assessed with your property taxes so everyone pays. Lots of young families moving in. Quite a fewhouses are still owned by the original owners and many more are owned by people who have moved within the neighborhood or who grew up here and have moved back with their own families.
If you have school age children, either be able to get them into magnet/gifted schools or be prepared to pay for private, but that's the majority of EBR.
Bottom line- you can do a whole lot worse in finding a neighborhood to live in.

Westminster area (Drusilla Drive area) good neighborhood?
It's a good neighborhood. Easy access to Essen, Jefferson, and Bluebonnet too.
