Justin Welby, archbishop of Canterbury, was asked in an interview with BBC Radio 4 if the Western mindset that Jesus looked Caucasian needs to be reconsidered in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

This was a common practice hundreds of years ago and used as a way of spreading/maintaining Christianity and was done across many regions/races.
This is textbook Marxism and has infiltrated many churches years ago. Hell, the Baptist church upper echelon is pretty much straight far left now.

That actor did a great job in the recent series. Hopefully they get the $100 million needed for the next batch of episodes.
Thanks for sharing. And I agree. Jesus wasnt white, asian, black, hispanic etc. He was from the middle east so probably looked like what you show here.
I’ve never cared because even if he was black, asian, hispanic looking He is my Lord and Savior. I dont care about anyones skin color much less GOD’s. He created all!

Depicting Jesus as white is itself an attack on objective history. But that’s ok. The Bible is translated to local languages and Jesus can appeal to local people. Christianity has always incorporated some local flavors and rituals.

I just assumed it was because hundreds of years ago people weren’t well-travelled like they are now. There was no TV and internet. The average person probably had no idea what people looked like in the area Jesus was from.
So painters probably just painted him like the people around them.
That’s what I always assumed.
