They should have recruited allies. I guess they had lunatics running the military. No where enough resources to take on allies. Japan pissed off Asia .

Yes, Hitler had the best military in history. He couldn't beat the numbers against him.

His ego got the best of him.

Hitler’s arrogance and flat out craziness to open up 2 fronts destroyed any chance they had. The Soviets had an early agreement not to war with Germany early in the war. Hitler screwed that up

Absolutely not. You can point to numerous battles or decisions that could have easily had the opposite outcome and changed the war.

Hitlers plan of taking Europe AND invading Russia was too much for Germany. Blitzkrieg was meant to move fast and overwhelm the opponent. I just think Russia was to vast, large population, and vast resources were too much for that strategy of war to be successful. Hitler should have been satisfied with his conquests of Europe. But that wasn’t the plan from the beginning

Yes. Germany focused on dive bombers, and had no way to interrupt allied manufacturing, even though they knew the US and Britain would eventually enter the war. Japan was stretched too thin right off the bat, and also had no way to affect the war industry. Once their Navy was decimated at Midway, it was just a matter of time.

Nah. Prolonged it, maybe. Japan did not have the resources to maintain an indefinite empire in the Pacific, Germany didn't have the resources to do the same in Europe. Had several key battles gone in Axis powers' favor, the US would not have surrendered, the war would simply have been lengthened by a few years, at terrible cost in money and life.

A winning strategy would have been for Hitler and Hirohito to have attacked the USSR from the west by Germany and East by Japan and split the country, connected rail lines and took over the oil fields and mines. USSR couldn’t have won against both. Japan would have had to not attack Pearl Harbor (reason was naval blockades by the US were denying Japan needed resources). Japanese Navy could have easily secured the short distance between Japan and Russia for troops and supplies. Had they done this, and built up their war machine with Europe and Russia defeated, they could have won and either caused one hell of a war with the US or most likely instead of the USSR being our Cold War enemy in an arms race it ends up being Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan

Hitler thought (erroneously) that the English would not declare war when he invaded Poland.

The American Army of late '44/'45 was superior to anything that the Germans fielded. The combination of mobility/logistical support/tactical and strategic airpower/artillery/tactics/medical care. The German Army was still using horses for the primary transport of supplies and weapons. Their ability to recover and repair vehicles in the field was nowhere close to the Americans.

They did (Soviet Union). Then they attacked them. Oops.

They did. Hitler himself. Want a great read about that?

The Axis were either doomed the moment they set foot in Poland or the moment they set foot in Russia or the moment the US entered the war on the Allied side.

However there are two 2 week stretches- in October 1941 and July 1942- where with a little luck the Germans could have gained an advantage that would have crippled the Soviets. Weather got them in 1941 and poor planning and logistics got them in 1942.

The USSR was going to strike Germany, the pact was made by Stalin to gain time. He thought the war in the west would go longer and stronger, didn't expect France to fall in a matter of weeks. Hitler had no choice but to strike first. He hoped to settle with Britain to have only one front. Declaring war on the US was what was stupid. FDR couldn't have declared war in Europe after being attacked by Japan, public opinion was against Japan.

Who would have thought that Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill would be able to cooperate better than Hitler and Hirohito?

Didn’t Hitler have allies then turned on them? I feel like that could have been a clear path to victory.

The US military was not the power it is today.

Yes. Britain literally sold its empire to the United States and let the Russians conquer half of Europe and impose communism for a half century because they were that arse-blasted about the idea of a continental European power being as strong as them. Germany never had a chance.

They were doomed from the Treaty of Versailles.
