So uh, who doesn't keep up with the whereabouts of their 8 year old?

It's called free-range parenting. A lot of the posters on this board swear by it. The "good old days" and "look at me, I'm fine" etc.

well, actually that is what most of the wing nuts on the PT believe - the OT'ers are a mix of teenage virgin boys and high rollers.

But seriously, what should the punishment be here? I say 20 years for both the son and mother.

Well, when I stole a snickers from the grocery store when my mom wasn't looking, I had to write an apology letter and pay the manager the cost of the candy bar out of my allowance. Was grounded from sweets as well. That's an actually sane starting point.

Well to be respectful, I think there is a difference between taking a candy bar and pointing a loaded gun at somebody.

There's also a difference between an 8-year old and an adult.

Not so much when a loaded gun is involved.

Mom should serve a little time, or at least probation, and be forced to take some classes to help her become a better parent.

Kid should be placed in the custody of someone who can teach him right from wrong until mom is able to prove she deserves to raise a child.

At least enough to be considered a felon unable to own a gun. She's proven that she's irresponsible with them.

Don't know what to do about that kid. Jeez, I see some crap in his future. Pray to God he starts getting good at sports. You know, because the long practices will keep him occupied and make him too tired to get into trouble.
