She did apologize for even taking the call. It was the first time she had been in the situation.

Dude who called was wanting to bring his work team somewhere to meet. He frequents that coffee shop and knows you like to hog the group table. Before bringing his team to the shop, he calls ahead to see if the table is open. Barista says “no it’s not.” He says “is there a guy there?” because he knows it’s probably you.
He asks to talk to you so he can ask how long you’re planning to be there and/or if you’re willing to give up the table. As he’s waiting for the Barista to hand you the phone, he’s engaged in a group text with his colleagues, and they propose and agree to another location, making his question to you moot. When he realizes you are waiting for him to speak, he automatically goes to his usual “how are you today” that he starts 99% of his work calls with. He then snaps back into it and realizes he doesn’t need to talk to you and hangs up.
He asks to talk to you so he can ask how long you’re planning to be there and/or if you’re willing to give up the table.
