Shower for the groom, you bring gifts for him. The one my wife and I went to, she made a "basket" out of a bucket, filled it with car care products, pretty cool gift.
I recently heard this called a 'tool party'. Never heard of it before.

I know it as a honey do.
We had one. My side of the family through a couples honey do shower for us. Got some tools, yard tools, a nice blender for drinks and stuff like that. Was a good time.
Then my wife's side threw the traditional bridal shower that was for females only.
People that Bitch and moan over these things much live shitty lives.

This is really, really common. Be a good lad and buy your friends some nice bar ware,or a gift card.
My parents got an invitation to a house warming party their new neighbors were having for themselves and they specifically asked for Target gift cards.
I thought that was tacky.

Wow I'm really glad you're not someone I know IRL. You come across as the trashy one.
If you're too cheap to go to the party, don't go. Or go and be festive. We had a similar party, and while most people brought a gift, some didn't. We were just happy to be surrounded by friends.

I've heard of bridal showers and honey-do's and engagement parties but not wedding showers.

How has the OP heard of a Honey Do and not a Bridal Shower or Couple's Shower? And what the frick is a Honey Do, besides a list of shite your woman wants you to do that you could do in a day, but drag out for months.

Apparently it's a shower for the groom, or so says this board
Which is probably either some absurd 2016 equality SJW shite or completely awesome, depending on how you look at it

I had a honey-do shower. Boiled 300 lbs of crawfish, got hammered, and ended up with a bunch of great gifts and gift cards. It was awesome and a great reason to get together with family and friends to celebrate- in the end that's what it's all about, the gifts were just a bonus.

Do you know if it is a regional thing?

Not sure. I haven't been to many weddings outside of my hometown honestly.
Most of my buddies and family have hand them that I can think of. Mostly within the last 8-9 yrs.

My friend had a "stock the bar" party. Legit.

Been to a few of those as well. Agreed, they are legit.
Another good reason to gather and drink.
