Not a while back. It's ongoing. He has dedicated the remainder of his life to philanthropy and plans on giving away the majority of his fortune. His kids will only inherit $10 million each and the rest of his fortune is earmarked for the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and other charities he supports.

Read thread title. Buffett overtook him as well. Slim was atop the 400 for a few years, but isn't an American by state--unless you consider the fact that Mexico is in North America and is divided into states.
