I’d rather have a personal archive of posts that keeps posts even if a thread is removed.
I’ve put in a lot of time on some quality posts that get flushed down the hole just because some other douchebag posted something objectionable.
I could start a new thread with my amended post if it didn’t contain any hint of the the offending comments/topic.

This is the only way the voting system will ever have any meaning. And will cut out a lot of the downvote stalkers.

Caring about upvotes & downvotes before reading suggests weakness of mind and that you only care about the opinion of the mob vs truth. It suggests a lack of character.
The emphasis should be on better thread titles. Then you'll know if it's a topic you find worth investigating or if you have something worthwhile to add.

There’s got to be a way to make upvotes and downvotes mean something and serve some function

You're getting the same avalanche of downvotes I got on the help page when I first got on these forums and asked about if we could see who up and down voted.

We need to be able to see if there’s attached images in threads inferring such before we can see up or down votes.

No! Secret voting is essential to nonbiased votes.
It allows people to vote without worrying if someone knows if they upvote or downvote something
