I feel like people overreact to the whole time change thing. I’m not a big fan of Standard Time, but I also realize that we have Standard Time because it would be dark well into the morning if we stayed on Daylight Savings Time.
Yeah, if this change happens it'll stay dark until damn near 8:00AM once we get into the heart of Winter.
I'm fine with that, though.

So you'd be ok with your kids walking to school in the dark? That's dumb.
We used to walk to school in the dark in the winter all the time when I was a kid, because I think it started at 8 and I lived in Wisconsin so days were really short.
And I don't have kids, but as far as I can tell no one lets their kids walk to school anymore anyway.
ETA: Also, yes, we used to walk to school in Wisconsin in the dead of winter

Stay classy LSU.
MOst of you aren't old enough to remember (but I am) That we tried this back in the 1970's In 1974, we tried year-round Daylight Saving Time during the energy crisis to save fuel. People loved the idea of more daylight in the evenings at first, But that changed fast when winter hit. Public support collapsed, energy savings were minimal, and by the next year Congress brought back Standard Time for the winter. It turns out people like late sunsets, but not late sunrises.
It's easy to say it, it's another thing to live it.

It's like the sparing of the White House turkey's life...it's tradition at this point.
I have no preference for one way or the other- but I hope in my lifetime that the changing of the clocks is ended... hell, start killing the turkeys too, just leave my clocks and sleep rhythms alone.

In my neighborhood, 1/4 to 1/3 of the kids walk to school. But it's a newer (20 year old) neighborhood with good sidewalks and walking paths.

I don't give a frick what they call it. All I know is that after the first week of November, it gets dark around 5:30 and I can't stand that shite.

Yes I do. Cuz I don’t give a shits.

There's the same amount of light in the day. Get you lazy butt up out of bed an hour earlier. Problem solved.

A lot of people have workdays that require them to work certain hours so they can't knock off at 3 to enjoy the "evening light".
If they do pretend to try and push this forward it'll be interesting to hear the liberal talking points in opposition. Something about minorities and disadvantaged being adversely affected, but I look forward to the spin.

So everyone has to suffer because they made poor career choices?

How would everyone suffer? Most people want DST to be permanent. You're the minority on this one.
quote:
When asked which system they preferred, 54% favored year-round Daylight Saving Time, which would result in later sunrises and more sunlight in the evening.
Another 21% supported a permanent switch to standard time, meaning earlier sunrises but less daylight in the evening. Only 18% preferred keeping the current system of changing clocks twice per year, while 7% were unsure.

Also, I think this is a pretty much annual tradition but it'll never change I assume because of all the coding that would have to go into getting computers and networks changed over.
Uhhhhh... There won't be any coding involved with computers receiving time if they're connected to the Internet. They all get it via the Internet Time Service.
If it's an offline computer, it's just a change in the settings or a simple command.

Most people SAY they want it permanent. When they live through it, like I have, they would change their minds.

Sorry, but yeah. I can take a late sunrise far better than an absurdly early sunset.

You guys really want it to be dark at 8AM? I hunt and while it would allow me to sleep in a little longer, it would screw me on workdays where I go get a quick hunt in and get back for work at a decent time.
