This is what happens when public schools become centers of social indoctrination.

Upon what type of principles was it founded?

That our elected leaders are accountable to the people?

That the citizen be heavily weighted towards innocence and allowed every deference in his/her contention with the state?

Everyone would benefit from taking an elective comparative religion class. It's pretty valuable to go through the basics of the entire human spiritual canon.

How many people defending this for the state are not already on the payroll?

The AG nearly always outsources litigation on high profile issues. Look for people with descriptors like “Special Counsel for the Attorney General”, etc. This litigation is likely to cost the state of Louisiana hundreds of thousands of dollars in currency, not simply man hours.

Get that through the La Legislature and we’ll talk.

One of our actual foundational principles is the Constitution guarding against a tyranny of the majority. And we felt so strongly about not having a state-sponsored religion that we literally made it the First Amendment

Dems should sponsor legislation for the Sanskrit text and other secular texts to hang next to it. Show the hypocrites for who they are and bring the respective votes to the federal court system in two years to pierce this silly “historical purpose” argument.

And the proponents really need to get Ventrella off TV. She’s embarrassing herself. Although her district is probably eating it up.

The Seven Tenets are actually quite lovely:

THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS
I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
V
Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

If there’s a list in their scripture of tenets of the religion, like “Don’t murder” and “Don’t steal”, then hang that up too. The more chance inner city kids have of not turning into monsters, the better.

Islam has the Five Pillars. The first pillar is a profession of faith: “There is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his prophet.”

Sounds kinda similar to something, but I can’t quite put my finger on it…

“I AM the LORD thy God.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”

Ah, there we are.

Eta: I love how some of you are choosing the path of pure intellectual dishonesty and pretending as though this is about telling kids not to steal or murder…

The last big one that I’m remembering at the moment was Montgomery v. Louisiana. They retained Kyle Duncan and his firm/organization out of DC to litigate it.

Of course, Islam is a Abrahamic faith. It’s not all that different than the origins of Christianity

Don’t get me fricking started

Genuinely sharp guy, but what that intellect spits out after going through the filter that is his fundamental worldview is… interesting

Oh I’m aware. The poster I was replying to said they were good if other religions had a nice, tidy set of rules to post. The Five Pillars are nice and tidy, so I’m sure he’d have no issue with their being posted…

He says, dripping with sarcasm

We went from a moderate Democratic Governor, especially compared to other Democratic Governors around the country. He wasn’t my favorite but now we have someone that seems to be more worried about the Baptist’s in Northern Louisiana and what that money and support gets. I was born and raised Southern Baptist so this isn’t about religion, it’s about common sense. I miss the days of Mike Foster, he might not have been the best but he was definitely better than what’s been voted in after him.
