Not surprised
We are having to have our subdivision pond we attached to a water well because of low water.

Since you seem to know your shite when you post in these crawfish threads, when do you think any crawfish will start being available?
Is this lack of water going to push things back quite a bit?

Seafood is disgusting as frick anyway. I’ll stick to eating my steaks and deli sandwiches

Why are you talking about seafood in a crawfish thread?

Chinese weather ballon with salt lasers flying over the US has wreaked havoc.

They got plenty of 5-star steakhouses near Houston that I can go to. I can assure you that they are way more “higher class” than any of those bacteria-infested seafood restaurant shacks in South Louisiana that you like to eat at

This is probably the worst drought we’ve had since the 90's,” said Kaplan Farmer Christian Richard.
The southeastern drought was in 1993. Crawfish prices were $0.50/lb which was some of the lowest crawfish prices in the decade. Again this is just crawfishermen trying to cash in.

We’re hoping for 2/4 inches of rain to flush out some salt water for ponds down south of kaplan.
And y’all just don’t know squat if y’all think farmers have anything to do with prices. But whatever.
I just hope that we have any crawfish at all this year.

One of the wells in one of our fields came with a $5000 electricity bill. For one single month during last summers rice crop.
We have wells in some fields .. not everyone is set up that way. But it’s $$ to keep them running. But rice has to have water and so do crawfish.

There will be plenty crawfish. The ponds were flooded to grow rice and are now reflooded for crawfish. There's plenty of acreage that has deep wells North of the salt water intrusion.
The biggest gripe is the cost of flooding, but they flooded.

There’s usually around 390,000 acres of crawfish ponds in Louisiana on a given year I would guess to say there will be around 300,000 acres this year due to land not having enough water to flood their acres mainly in Vermillion and Jeff Davis parishes so I think overall from a production standpoint there will be less crawfish on the market this year just from the drop in acres. I still think there will be early crawfish this year usually by the first of the year boil n gos start opening up and I think if there’s any delays it might be just a week or two later than normal

You have to look at the big picture everyday things are up food utilities fuel etc why would y’all think crawfish would be any different I really wish some of y’all could spend a day on the farm to see what all goes into from labor fuel bait repairs we don’t think we should get paid a fortune we just want to pay our bills. When boil n go prices are $9lb to start the season just remember the farmer who does all the work to get the crawfish out the field is only getting $4lb

The drought does seem to be affecting things much more than you state. Most restaurants here usually have crawfish the second week of November. Here we are at the end and nothing yet around me, nor have I heard any rumblings. Weather has been great aside from natural water.

Preach. We needed a new combine (new to us). My husband was super worried about the decision and was having chest pains. We got him checked out and beset and all was fine. It was stress .. once he found the right machine and made the deal, pains all went away.
I think it is like any other occupation — you never know what’s involved until you’re in it.
