Sounds a lot like Pitch, which I love and play with my family in Beauregard Parish. Pitch has a few more quirky rules though. I can see how it would be fun.

We usually played for money. our typical money game was a 5/5/5 or 10/10/10 etc....
5/5/5: If a team gets set, both partners throw $5 in the pot. If a team gets a 0 during any round, another $5 per partner in the pot. Then the losing team has to add another $5 per person at the end of the game. Winning team takes everything in the pot at the end of the game. Losing team may end up losing $10-20 per person in a game, but it isn't anything crazy. Of course you just up the penalty to 10/10/10 or higher if you wanted bigger money games.

There is now a Pedro app for iPhones. It's actually pretty decent. A few differences from our game: can only play trump and have to follow suit, min bid 6. But pretty cool. Apparently it's from Sweden so you play sweeds and a bunch of Cajun baws.
