The Greatest Night in Pop

Excellent documentary.

In the same vein I'd also recommend Thriller 40, the one about making that album. It goes track by track with some great backstory on the songs. It's also really good.

The best part is when one of the musician dudes takes you through each layer of the Thriller backing track and you see him piece it together layer by layer. It's really cool.

I made a thread with a pretty huge list of music docs earlier this year if anybody is looking for some to watch: From January

What was the end result of this "saving our own lives"?

Well, it was originally written as "we are taking our own lives". But, they decided that wasn't appropriate.

One of the original examples of celebrity virtue signaling. Guaranteed less than 10¢ on the dollar ever made it to Africa.

He was, but he had nothing to do with We Are the World, so this is sort of an odd tidbit to drop into this thread.

Lionel Ritchie ended his set at Endymion singing We are the World.

You could feel the energy drain out of the Superdome like a balloon deflating...

I've never liked the song.

I am always open to being corrected, but i believe that USA for Africa raised, and continues to raise, many millions of dollars for famine relief .. What have you done ?

A couple I knew traveled to Africa (can't remember the nation) on a mission to teach the locals "sustainable farming", some years ago. After spending over 6 months there, they returned a year later to find that the mission was a complete failure due to the fact that the locals had EATEN ALL OF THE SEEDS reserved for the following season.

Money will never cure the many problems they have there. Good luck finding what will.
