I believe it was "BocksCar" that dropped on Nagasaki.

On a purely human level, what an absolute pitiful statement about our species that horrific conflict between us and Japan was. I will never know what Imperial Japan thinking-just pure hubris and barbaric savagery on display-what they did in Manchuria being exhibit A. These were two countries and cultures that should never have been at odds-and frick Imperial Japan for a thousand reasons.
So happy that they are now possibly our greatest and most non-controversial ally-that MacArthur and Truman/Eisenhower played it just right, and that the Japanese people were able to build that country into what it is today. If you haven't been-I urge you to take a couple weeks away from Tokyo-and explore that amazing country.

There was a segment of the government that believed that they had to drop it because they had spent so much money and effort on the development.
The bottom line is that dropping the bomb did save lives, but there are some interesting rabbit holes to go down regarding some of the claims made to support it.

That is correct. The Great Artiste was an instrumentation and observational B-29 that flew both the Hiroshima & Nagasaki missions.

Clearly this possibility exists for the 1st bomb but not the 2nd. Japan refused to surrender after the 1st Bomb.

Interesting story of the attempted military coupe to stop the emperor from surrendering. There's a older movie depicting it but it needs to be remade with Ken Watanabe

Youngest son has worked / lived / married in Japan for 8+ yrs now. A WW II history nut, when I visited him the first time, I was sorta looking for anti American WWII-era natives. Son told me one big reason that sentiment does not exist any more is Japan lost so many male soldiers, to some extent female citizens as well, killed in the war. i.e. there is not many Japanese around from that era anymore.

Russia had just declared war on Japan the day before Nagasaki. They knew they were cooked (pun intended). Not saying it wasn’t killing two birds with one stone, but Truman definitely had ulterior motives for dropping the nukes. He knew Russia would take half of Japan and it would become another East Germany. He knew the Cold War was just around the corner and had to show the world that Western Democracy had the tool to defeat anyone who tried to attack it. In the end it should go down as a humanitarian effort. Millions of Japanese would’ve died or been sent to the gulag if it were not for little and big boy, and today they still don’t speak Russian.

Russian didn't have the navy for landings of that scale. All they cared about was regaining all of Sakhalin Island and the Kuril Islands along with establishing pro communist governments in Manchuria and Korea.
