Water bill charges...I had a charge to support Lafreniere Park

I checked out my water bill at the dump today for the first time in forever, and noticed I was getting a $2.81 charge to support Lafreniere Park. That seems like a lot since there are 435,000 people in this parish. That's $1.2 million a month going to a park. Wtf is up with that? All they have to do is regular maintenance.
I'm guessing this is in perpetuity since politicians never stop giving themselves money once they get it. I'm trying to make America great again, but that seems absurd.

It's unlikely that people on the Westbank are paying this fee. The millage would only be applicable to the people within that recreation district.

Sounds like a special district

Kind of like when Edwin Edwards made river boat casinos legal and all the money generated from casinos were suppose to go to education.. but didn't. Its the government.

sounds like you didn't do your due diligence when you chose to live in this specific place.

Average number of people per household: 2.3 (technically higher in the south).
2.81*(435,000/2.3)= $531,000
Not that crazy.

It did go to education but the money that was in the general fund for education was redirected elsewhere. Louisiana politics, baw.

Your house is a dump?
If so, why are you living there?

But people in Texas are stupid for building first class complexes that benefit the community.
Lafreniere Park is a dump that costs as much to maintain on a yearly basis as a first class multi-use complex in Texas costs to build.

I've never used welfare, so...

I wish it was something like a yearly park membership. That way the facility will be proportional to the amount of people who use it.
That $2.81 is in addition to the money they are already getting from the local government, so their intake is much more than $1.2MM per month

An article from 2010
quote:
Kenner officials are again exploring the old idea of reclaiming the money that their constituents pay to maintain Lafreniere Park in Metairie.
quote:
Stagni, along with council members Kent Denapolis and Ben Zahn asked Mayor Mike Yenni's administration to investigate the origins of the fee, now $1.29 monthly, and how to have the money rededicated to Kenner. City officials said Kenner residents paid $400,000 for the park last year.
quote:
The fee shows up on water bills. When first imposed, the fee was paid only by residents of unincorporated Jefferson Parish; Kenner and Harahan were added later. When the parish was questioned at the time about the legality of imposing the fee in Kenner and Harahan, the Legislature adopted a bill allowing it.
Also, your Jeffeson Parish utility rates explained:

The water dept there sux. I lived in Metairie and those dumbasses were sending me the bill for my house and for a house that had the same address and street name but was on the westbank. They overcharged me hundreds of dollars and refused to return it.
So I stopped paying them and parked my truck on top of the meter (it was in the ground) so they could not turn my water off. They finally gave me my money back but i had to fight them.
The water company here also charges us for services that we do not use so we dug a new well on our property and told the water dept to go eff themselves.
If you are a senior citizen (or can put you bill in an elderly relatives name) they do not charge senior citizens all those extra charges.
