The blame goes on that police superintendent. Those cops were completely overmatched by the sheer number of people that rushed the gates. Standing room only seems like a good idea until you see how wrong something like that can go if you don’t get a handle on the amount of people that get into the stadium.

In case you haven’t ever heard of it

quote:

The resulting 96 fatalities and 766 injuries make this the worst disaster in British sporting history.

Can't imagine the horror of that day. A true tragedy.

That's a detailed, but long Wikipedia article.
I want to read this.
I remember the tragedy, but only a little bit.
Can this 30 for 30 be seen on YouTube or Netflix?

Possibly on YouTube, not on Netflix. But I’m pretty sure you can watch it on the WatchESPN site or app. I’m watching it on Amazon right now though. You’ve gotta pay for it unfortunately on Amazon though as no 30 for 30 is on Prime.

And never forget how Rupert Murdoch's newspaper The Sun libelled the victims of the tragedy by falsely claiming that Liverpool fans stole from the corpses and attacked police officers. Printing these lies slowed down inquiries into the role police played in the tragedy for years.

There was an attempted cover up as well. The families fought for over a decade to clear the air. The blame was put on the Liverpool fans.

I watched that years ago. The images of mangled bodies are still vivid in my mind.

Must’ve been a horrible way to die.

Weren't the papers being fed this info by the police?

Yes, The 30 for 30 covers the misinformation being fed to the press.

Why? On its own it looks mildly intriguing, but not "powerful". Is there some context? Perhaps you could caption so I don't have to guess.

It’s not really shocking though that the police would try to cover their arse. And people were skeptical of the police report from day one. It was quite the cover up.

That and the fact that back then the fans were literally put in big cages. There was no place for anyone to go so people got crushed up against the fences.
