The Chief Criminal Deputy taking the truck and cleaning it was pretty bad. He got the truck in exchange for posting bail for a girl. He sold it a few days later and pocketed thousands.
Wasn't the Sheriff voted out because everyone knew how corrupt him and his dept. were/are?

So you think coonasses=blacks from the hood?
Go test that theory in Dulac and get back to me.
I’m sick of white people pretending to be ghetto- even if they live in one. Enough of the cultural appropriation. Be white trash, if that’s what you are. But don’t try to be Tupac, when you look like the coonasses version of White Boy Rick or Vanilla Ice.

Why people who aren’t hood rats want to emulate hood rats is truly perplexing.
The poorest trashiest people I ever knew were genuine. They weren’t acting like hood rats unless they were.
Napalm everything on the “other side of the tracks”.

Jennings is just like Rayne, Crowley, Eunice and Oakdaie.
Oakdale is actually shittier.

He may have not actually killed them, but he has it arranged.

Why? What was his motivation? So are you saying that he killed her and stored her in barrels of formaldehyde?
Where does a man get a 55 barrel drum of formaldehyde? Also, so lets say that he killed the Gary girl. It does seem that he had something to do with it, either killing her or her OD'ing at his place and him doing something with the body. But what about the other 7?

Tallulah is a pleasant little town to drive through, kind of like Cottonport. Unfortunately just has a lot going against it and many people have moved. Census from 2000 to 2010 dipped by several thousand.

My old man was held at gunpoint and had his truck stolen (temporarily) in that shite town, so yeah, I'd say it's pretty trashy.

There are some really good people in Jennings and there are some really trashy people. It's just a sleepy little town right off I-10. Hey it has a thriving Wally-Mart, things can't be that bad. But for the shortsightedness of some key local business leaders in the past, Jennings could be where Lafayette is right now.
What plagues Jennings in terms of economic growth (or lack thereof) is what plagues Louisiana........lack of good paying "blue collar jobs" within a diversifed industry base. You know auto assembly plants, manufacturing jobs, etc. Fix Louisiana and most likely the economic prosperity will trickle down to Jennings. Unfortunately Louisiana can't pull itself away from that democrat tit.
IMO the Jennings-Lake Arthur area is gorgeous.
As you were. Smoke'um if you got'um.

sheriff lost his election afterwards
Not exactly. Murders took place between 2005 and 2009. He won at least one re-election in the midst of it, though as time goes on, I would imagine people becoming more frustrated. Regardless, he left after not seeking re-election and works for the state Sheriff Association. The article is dated 2011. It doesn't look like he left office but just finished out his term based on this.
So I suppose either the level of corruption goes up at least as high as the state, or it's a bit overblown altogether.

Uhhh, we may just have to agree to disagree. I don't think I'll be vacationing to Mermantau this year, but I do hope that you enjoy your time there.
Don't forget to make your reservations at Boudin King early! I think you can use Open Table now-a-days.
