I was able to watch my 1st son being born but I had to stand behind a partition on the 2nd. Awesome!

I'm curious.
At one point, not too long ago, husbands were considered an unnecessary distraction and many doctors were not in favor of them being in the delivery room.

Total opposite. I took my brother to a dermatologist appointment when I was 17. Fainted when they shaved a mole off.
Fast forward like 6 years and I cut 2 fingers off in a wood planer. Blood everywhere, trying to call parents and drive to hospital. Didn't phase me at all

Some of us do what we want when it comes to most things. I wanted to, and really enjoyed, seeing mine born. Only thing I could have gone without is the smell of cauterized flesh during the c-section but that's part of seeing cool shite in person.

I was there for mine and each was the greatest thing I have ever seen. For me, I would regret it immensely not seeing it and being there for my kids' first moments, and for my wife. I honestly can't understand how so many in this thread are so withdrawn from the experience. Not criticizing them, but I simply don't understand it. It was amazing. Besides -- what else could be more important?

In the first I probably didn't (natural birth), and until I saw the chilf I wasn't real sure I played an integral role in making the child either, but that's another story. Not a great marriage....not a great situation.
The second was supposed to be a natural birth, but our daughter (after 12 hours of pre-labor) was determined to be out of position and would not be able to pass through the birth canal. Emergency C-section. My wife was extremely nervous and I was honestly a great source of support for her during that time. But we are a really good team who depends on one another.
If you are in a good relationship with the mother of your child I am sure that you will want to be there for her if nothing else. That's what being with that special person is all about......sharing life with someone. What defines sharing life more than being there when she brings that life into the world that you created together?

I liked being in there.
The real irritating part of the process is explaining to all of wife's friends that seem to think they need to be in there as well and that they think they are more important than the other "best friends" or even other immediate family members.

My wife had a C-section and I was in the room, but made damn sure I didn't see anything.
