And question for the watch guys, I have two kids. So...need another one. I don't have a Rolex budget, but looking for something different than the Tudor, not a dress watch, wouldn't mind an interesting model (big reason why I picked the smiley rose). I will wear it often, don't want to go above 41 mm.
I have 3 sons, each will get a watch passed down from me. One will get my GMT-Master II that I wear to every special occasion and big deal that I close, one will get my daily-driver BB red and my birthyear Datejust, and one will get my Panerai - the Pan is one a leather strap made out of a baseball glove -- I only wear it to every game that my son plays -- he will be able to wear this watch and know that I never missed a game. I have a few others that they can form their own way on who gets what.
The birthyear DateJust with recent Rolex service is only about $4,000 on the market. So, not much more expensive than your BB. The Panerai was a limited run of 500 watches, so it is a bit more expensive -- but you can get a Luminor for around $4,500.
My point in sharing these details -- don't just get a watch to get a watch. Use your imagination and try to have connections with them and the person you plan to hand it down to. It doesn't have to be expensive to have a value to your sons.

MONTA Watch
If you're a spec and build lover and not necessarily a brand lover, then give Monta watches a look. They make some fantastic watches with high end finishes with a rabid following in the microbrand world. There are sport and GMT models that have killer articulating steel bracelets with glide lock style clasps. They almost all can be had for less than 2K. I plan to get a Monta Noble soon.

Nice watch although I don’t like the idea of putting a couple thousand dollar watch on a nylon bracelet
I get it. I have swapped it out for the bracelet the times I've worn it with a suit. Also had a Barton silicone strap at times. The Tudor nylon feels the most comfortable, and I wear it everyday so...

Just had a customer with a Grand Seiko. $9100 or so. Didn't feel like that type of watch. Very light. Not what I would spend that kind of money on. He's a collector and already has Rolexes and the normal high end brands.

NATO bands are awesome.
I wear my 1980's Rolex no date Sub on one all the time. I keep a bag of different colors on hand just to play around with the look when I am bored.
I remember my first strap I bought from an Australian company 20 years ago. They were touting the safety the NATO strap provided if one of your pins broke. The company advertising read:
If a pin breaks, you are good. If they both break, well you're fricked mate.

Very nice. I was picking up a xmas present for my wife and they had a case full of Tudors and it took all the self control I had not to grab one.
Same here. It's part of the reason i picked up my BY 16800. I'm going to grab a BY sub for my son now that prices are getting more realistic and give him at some point, then he'll get mine too whenever i kick it.

Secondary reason for purchasing, when my Dad died a couple years ago I kind of wished he would have had a watch that he could pass down, but he wasn't a watch guy.

I also wear multiple straps in lieu of bracelets. To me bracelets just scratch and clank against everything, especially at my office when I’m working at my desk all day. I do put on the bracelet for formal stuff, but now I’m rocking this canvas from BandRbands w/ my aquaracer

I'm looking at of these. Reminds me of something a Bond villain would wear. They can usually be found for around 5k. Also will eventually pull the trigger on a Sub or Explorer II from the year I graduated college. I think I deserve to buy myself a many years belated graduation present.
my current watch. omega planet ocean 'deep black/sedna gold' GMT with 2 barrels to double the energy reserve

Congrats, my suggestion is try Omega for the next timepiece.

Nice baw! I recently picked up the Tudor Black Bay Chrono. I know you said something other than Tudor but this watch is a beast.

That’s a great looking watch. When I picked the Heritage BB I had been toying (if I bought new) with either the Chrono or the BB Pro. Pretty much had decided on Tudor, just needed to figure out a model.

Get a Speedy. Only a little more than a Tudor (should be able to get a new Hesalite 3861 for <$6k, preowned 1861 for less than $5k).

Love it but the lack of a metal bracelet is what keeps me away from the deep black. A non dress watch ought to have at least the option of one.

Sweet watch, wish my 6 inch wrist could handle something like that

I have a Black Bay 36, want to try on and possibly purchase a Pro in the next year.
Hard as hell to photograph this watch with the inky glossy black dial

I have a big wrist so small watches look like toys on it.
I prefer a fat panerai or IWC big pilot.

I’ve had many Tudors in my collection and they are excellent watches, especially the newer ones with in house calibres.
I would highly recommend Grand Seiko. I have multiple GS models and they are absolutely fantastic. Just as good quality as my Rolex and Omega pieces.
