This dude got ripped off then.

Great break down on drugs given. My dog was having issues 3rd spacing the iv fluids. I had to acquire hetastarch (possibly misspelled as I'm not in the field) as a replacement fluid. Cost way more than regular iv fluids for me to acquire.

I guess if I get bit I'll just go to the crooked vet.

What leads you to believe the emergency vet is the crooked one? I'd be looking square at the hospital or insurance companies here

Snakes don't bother me at all. I like and respect them.

I live in a neighborhood but we have a pretty healthy snake population. I only kill the venomous ones. I actually wouldn't even do that if I saw them in the woods or something but I don't want them to bite me or a neighborhood kid.

Of course. Most people get bit because they are fricking with the snake. I understand killing a venomous snake on your property, but in the wild they should be left alone.

I’ve been catching snakes for close to 50 years, and even seeing a coral snake in the wild is a dream - but that gave me serious anxiety watching that. Kid shoulda bought a lotto ticket after that. Damn

He got bit. Anyone know if he was okay?

Maybe for a really bad rattlesnake bite, where you need 10 to 15 vials of CroFab. Still I can’t see how it would be 150 K. For a copperhead bite you might not even need CroFab.

Caught a 4 foot Coral snake once when I was young and foolish; donated it to the Baton Rouge Zoo. Pinnacle of my snake-catching days, which are long past for the most part.

Closest call with a venomous snake was while waking through the palmetto lowland area of the BREC park near Camelot maybe Forest park? Wasn’t paying attention and was 1 step away from stepping on one of the fattest damn water moccasins I’ve ever seen, all coiled up ready to go; luckily I saw it just in time and fricking ninja-leaped away.

I used to wander the banks of Wards Creek, or the sand creek behind Lake Sherwood etc with just my supply pack and walking stick for hours on end when I was a kid - usually with friends, but sometimes alone. Maybe fish for some Bass, Gar, Crappie; or just see what was out there. Caught a Diamond back terrapin once, amphiuna, saw a bull frog the size of a small cat, racers, king snakes, etc.

Today I shake my head with how reckless it was, and I doubt I’d let my child do the same, but it was an amazing time full of adventure and wonder.

I was bitten by a copperhead. I had jeans on and felt something hit my leg. I never felt anything. I killed it and went about my business. The next morning, I woke up with what looked like the eraser from a fat pencil sticking out of my calf. I went to my dermatologist (immediately...I know him well enough to meet him at his office before he opens for scheduled appointments) who informed me that I was bitten by the snake and that my skin had encapsulated the venon. He said it was bizarre and that the snake only seemed to get one fang in (it was where my jeans bunched up a bit near mid calf). He drained it and sent me on my way. The "erasor bubble" eventually went away and now I have a permanent souvenir from the incident that is a dis-colored circle.

I live on an acre sized pond so snakes are part of the gig.

I just saw on The outdoor board that a snake bite costs you $150,000.
Insane

No.

I was bitten by a copperhead 8 years ago...

Insurance covered the anti venom and overnight stay at the hospital. Would’ve been about $30k.... not $150k
