Ah, an ICU player- welcome. Who do you think places that balloon pump, cannulates for VA or VV ECMO, or directs filtration rates on continuous dialysis?
Hint: not the nursing staff...
Better yet, I have never walked into a resuscitation in that oh-so-tough-ICU-nurses domain and stated "Who is running this code?" and had the answer be some nurse
As a medic, with the exception of ER doctors I’ll take a nurse any day over most other doctors or even surgeons running a code. Unless maybe it’s a heart surgeon and not to late to help the patient out. Worst thing in the world is pulling up on a bad scene and there being a doctor or surgeon there, it’s usually a cluster frick. Unless it’s an ER doc. Last one an anesthesiologist was doing chest compressions on someone who simply went unresponsive due to low blood sugar.

Go away troll
If you really are a surgeon you are likely the a-hole surgeon who strolls into the patient room early in the morning to remove sutures or some other possibly painful procedure on a 4 year old without having the decency to have the nurse give the poor child some pain meds first.

Nurses are trending right behind teachers on telling us how important they are.

Medics deserve a lot more respect as well. I don’t think many realize just how lowly they are paid.
You deserve to be paid much more imo.

Will be sure to call you if I ever need advice from a hand-hygeine clipboard warrior during banker's hours.

I looking to get into a new line of work, and I quickly ruled out being a paramedic. There is no way I can do that job.

I’m also the person that has to go through all your progress notes and Op notes in the chart(I bet those are horrible copy and paste nightmares) to see if I can get you out of an SSI that I have to report to the CDC, CMS, and the hospital board. So that you also avoid a peer review with the chief of surgery on why so many of your cases result in SSIs and are causing CMS to penalize your hospital by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The two professions that pat themselves on the back more than anyone else are teachers and nurses. Not surprising they're both dominated by women.

Lol. Fill in the blank Nursing anecdote about some fictitious dumb doctor.
You and I both know that one can draw two bell curves with knowledge, ability, training and outcomes but I don't think you would like to see which curve is on the far left...
You're all out of straws, but you're still grasping at them. Would you like a verbal order for more?
What do you call the guy who finished last in his class in med school?
Doctor.

He is likely the one that puts in his progress notes “Patient resting comfortably and in no distress.”
On an surgical ICU patient that had just passed away.
(I’ve actually seen this before while reviewing charts).

An operating room nurse (circulator) is way closer to a tech than an actual nurse but they are the exception to the rule. ER and critical care nursing is a tough job physically, mentally and emotionally. No way I’d want to do what they are doing on a daily basis.
