No tie. If you don't need a tie and wear one anyway, that is fine. If you need a tie and don't wear one.. that is generally a problem.

Yeah, don't do that

Unless it's a short sleeve shirt with a tie, the Dwight K Schrute look.

Its a job interview "when in doubt" wear a suit and tie, I cant imagine any place that would hold that against you, for all they know you have other interviews or business that day that require it.

There are absolutely some places that will hold it against you if they never wear a suit for a job. I have a friend that is a Civil engineer on very large projects and he doesn't even own a coat. I give him a hard time every time we have a friends wedding because he is in shirt and tie.

If someone walked in with a real nice suit in some construction jobs and they didn't feel you "fit" in, I definitely think it would hurt you.

They didn't say "no tie," they said "business casual," which can be a bit subjective.

I was mostly joking fwiw. I mostly agree with you.

But if this is more of a khakis and polo shirts with casual friday in jeans type of office, I can honestly see someone being off put they tell interviewers business casual and they show up in a suit and tie. Not sure I would, but it would absolutely depend on how the interview goes.

Your dress and interview are not mutually exclusive. If you come off as arrogane and wear a really nice suit in a business casual interview, I don't think that comes off well. But if you come out as very down to earth and eager, it certainly can look good.

Business casual is khakis and a polo or a button down shirt.

That's business casual. Unless you are interviewing for a management position then only an overcompensating schmucks wears a tie for business casual.

judt avoid this. you arent joining a frat or being the best
dressed in high school.

wear a button down, tie optional ig you wear it right. if you have a blazer go with it. thst and two buttons on the shirt is the rage with nyc sales folk.

Khakis and a polo is just casual. Business casual is AT LEAST slacks and a pressed polo all the way to a sports coat and slacks. Going on a job interview you should always dress at the top end of the required attire.

Get a suit instead.

You don’t want to look like you are going to a high school homecoming dance with a sports coat & khakis

In NYC, you'll get laughed at for wearing a coat with no tie.

I'd just do slacks, long sleeve button down, and a tie.

And the guy was interviewing in Georgia so I'm not sure why he thought his comment made any sense.
