What was the big deal in Baton Rouge for music? I've heard the same thing and it's not exactly "music city".
shite, looking at the entertainment section of my Gumbos from the 70s looks like an ad for the Rock and Roll or Country music Hof

Uuhmm, that would be the Allman brothers sport
that said, I witnessed many great shows between A warehouse, (yes, it was called a warehouse not THE warehouse) municipal auditorium, PMAC and later the centroplex
Zeppelin in the PMAC was the zenith of arena rock concerts
they opened with trampled underfoot and blew the doors off of that place...
Damned teeny bopper classmates didn't want us to spend $10,000 for either ZZ Top or Pot Liquor for 1972 Jr/Sr Prom. This was the stated price by Beaver Productions for either group in the Fall of 1971. They wanted to spend the money on decorations and wanted teeny bopper dance music.

When I was neighbors and friends with Bill Ward of Black Sabbath in the early 90's. He told me that his favorite venue was Warehouse in NOLA. The crowd was more into music than any other venue and were right there so the could feed off of each other's energy as one. The added benefit was driving around the rural area nearby and seeing alligators on "lawns" while coming down off the high of playing which took about 3 days of non stop drinking, heroin and a lot of fricking. FTR, Bill was about to move to Lower 9th Ward to be near Fats Domino then Katina screwed up those plans.

Are you asking if New Orleans has ever been popular with musicians?
Posted on 2/24/23 at 10:07 am to Gee Grenouille
It truly is terrible. Nothing comes to BR anymore and only a few venture to NOLA. Meanwhile, since moving to Houston, I've had to say no to some concerts because I'd be going to bands nonstop.

The rock concerts went away when the rock stations went away. Baton Rouge and Lafayette used to be stops for all tours

Yes it was popular.
My first Concert was with 80k in the dome to see the Roling Stones. Also went to LA's 1st day of Rock and Roll which featured Boston, Heart, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult. That concert lasted 17 hours. The following year they had The Eagles, Foreigner and Cheap Trick.
At the Assembly Center saw, Journey and the Baby's once, Journey and Loverboy.
In the Rivercenter, Queen was incredible.
Warehouse was hot af, but the music was great my only time there, Journey and Thin Lizzy.

Snug Harbor is my favorite club for jazz. Acts usually perform an 8 and 10 pm show. Also check out Preservation Hall.

ZZ Top
Van Halen
Bob Seger
Stones
Boston
The Cars
Kiss
Those are the ones I can remember seeing at either the Dome or the Assembly Center in the late 70's early 80's. So yea. I'd say it was.
