5 mg / day. I take it before bed. been on it for about 3.5 yrs. 60 y/o. 158 lbs
no issues BUT I had a cough (dry for the most part) that came on suddenly last June and lasted about 3 months. NO other symptoms, I wonder if it was the drug?
We watch my K levels, which have always trended to the high end of normal but that seems to be staying put.

Everyone is different. I take 2 bp meds and never had high bp. Of course I've had 6-7 heart attacks (yes troponin elevated in each). Last 3 attacks were during exercise. 6 foot 2, 215.
Take Repatha now with a statin and all is very, very well.
Point is, we are all different, find what is best for you.

Was prescribed lisinopril - Anyone not having issues?
Thanks for asking.
Full disclosure: I’m not on lisinopril or any other prescription medication.

And recommendations for alternatives to BP meds?
Diet and exercise. Set realistic goals though. You didn't put on the weight overnight, so you won’t take off the weight overnight. Start with small goals and keep working to higher goals. Cut out sugar and bad cards, start drinking lots of water

What a stupid post.

bl med prescription...
What's that?
As for Lisinopril, I was prescribed it a few years ago and it was very effective at lowering my BP but I had to stop taking it because it made me cough. There was a constant tickle in my throat and I would randomly cough all day and I would wake up coughing almost every night. So then I tried other BP meds and none of them worked quite as well as Lisinopril. Eventually I got tired of taking all these different meds and decided to get my fat arse in the gym. I lost 30 lbs and my blood pressure came down on its own and now I don't take any meds.

This is the way.
All the downvoters in here are either fatties who lack discipline or pharma reps

It depends on your type of BP issues. For me nothing I did reduced my BP significantly. I used to wake up every morning before 430 and work out for an hour....cycling in good weather, if it was not good the elliptical and push ups etc. Changed my diet. No fried foods. Worked on my stress levels with a meditation routine at lunch most days. My BP never got below 145 /90. My dad had crazy high BP and it killed him. His cousin who was/ is an athlete even today in his early 70s has rto take BP pills. I tried the exercise, right living route and it only marginally worked.....at best because I had a hemorrhagic stroke 8 years ago and that was with diet. exercise.....and benicar.
You said all this and you never once said you lost any weight, so no, you didn’t try everything

The cough is the biggest side effect. I'm on the highest dose and my BP for the last 6-7 years is in check at 125 /75 range. I take no chances. When the stroke happened by BP was off the charts 200/ 120 at the hospital.
I was lucky I caught it as it was happening. I was under a great amount of stress at work and family at the time , so that did not help. And truth be told, I really was not diligent in my doctor's visits. I hadn't seen one in over 2 years at that point.
Good luck with managing it. At 5 mg your's may not be bad. I'm at the highest dose of all 3. Doc does not want me taking any chances and now I see one every 4 mos.

Well other than actually being healthy of course

I took lisinopril before. It was after a trial with some other BP med that also had a diuretic (blanking on the name) and had to swap. I was chugging water all day but still catching awful cramps from the diuretic it had with it. Lisinopril by itself was fine once the doc made the change.
I actually got a lot healthier in the years after being put on it and have since dropped it, but it was no big deal for me.

Have had no issues with lisinopril. On a very low dose and have started back exercising and eating better. Could probably get off of it now, but it was good to get the BP under control.

Oh, I lost weight. But my weight prior to was 210 and I 'm 6'4". I'm now steady at 190 -195. Weight was not an issue overall. My biggest issue according to the docs was Potassium levels and issues with kidneys. Which was crazy because I'm a banana and Avocado firnd and have been one for 30 years or longer. I used to routinely bike at a minimum 10 miles a day prior to the stroke

It's a good medication. It is incredibly common. The class of medication is renal protective and cardioprotective.

Go to your library and check out books on stopping Diabetes 2 without drugs.
I did this and followed their leads, and cut out prepared foods, sugar and most carbohydrates.
I did this, and I understood why I was doing it. My weight loss has been significant with no shots and no body altering medicine.
All my numbers are much lower than they were ten months ago.
Our "innerds" are working together, and the problem of visceral fat can be altered by diet.
Take the time to read and understand.

Google seems to show allot of people having issues with it, but I realize that folks not having issues will most likely not be online talking about it.
I had the "-pril" cough with it, got switched over to Olmesartan and have been fine since. I take it and Metoprolol but my heart has two artificial valves due to a congenital defect.

I take it twice a day alongside some others. I haven't had any issues. What issues are you hearing about/experiencing?
Posted on 12/17/25 at 8:47 am to bamabonners
I am 63. I have been on Lisinopril (10 MG daily) for over a decade with no issues.
I see my doctor every 6 months for a complete blood workup.
Again...I have experienced no adverse affects...but my Dr. keeps an eye on ALL of my numbers to be safe.
