Just want to say the Netflix series Narcos, is one of my favorite shows of all time.

I didn't think that anything could ever top The Wire for me personally, but then along came Narcos.

The only downside is that I now judge every other show against Narcos, which inevitably leaves me disappointed. Zero Zero Zero on Amazon Prime is the only one that's come remotely close. Great show if you haven't watched it.

The Roger Reaves book is an interesting one from the flying smuggling side of it. He said he hired Barry Seal.

War and Partnership can both be used to the drug war. Depends on what agency you talk to I think. Especially early/mid 80's.

Yes. But the 24 news cycle was different back than.

Heck. The character Ernesto Escobedo in Clear and Present Danger is loosely based on Escobar.

There is a guy who goes to my gym that could be Wagner Moura‘s twin brother. I always think Pablo is there to get a workout in.

I'm part hispanic, so I grew up watching hispanic channels. The news had a ton of stories about him in the lead up to the 94 World Cup

Hell yes he was. The Miami/Caribbean/Latin America drug trade and the drug wars were constantly in the news cycle. Hell-one of the most popular and culture-driving police TV shows was based on it: Miami Vice.

I had a fraternity brother of mine who was from Miami. His dad was into either yacht or plane sales. He had a photo of his dad and Pablo on a yacht. I thought that was cool as hell.

That's all I got.

Anyone remember the low tech game Drug Wars? It was basically just a version of Sim City, just with drugs instead of other things. Buy low, sell high, have some luck, etc.

Gotta tell you though: At this point, a kilo of primo coke would probably last me the rest of my life.

Yes, he was definitely a household name. Back the we only had like 3 tv channels so we had no choice but to watch the news and stay informed on world events.

"Guerrilla Groups" were kidnapping American expat O&G executives in the late 70's into the 80's, notably Texaco's who eventually IIRC pulled out of Columbia. Drug related? Don't know, it was frequently in the news.

Which was a bummer at the time. Cartagena was a beautiful old world historic city crawling with gorgeous women.
