Want to learn more about US presidents

Looking to get some historical context from past presidents.
Not really interested in really recent guys like Obama, W, Bill, or H.W. and I don't frick with Truman, but I'm willing to give every other president a go.
Anyone have any books they recommend?

All of Joseph Ellis' work is solid. Ditto Jon Meacham's books on Jefferson and Jackson.

A good book on John F. Kennedy is JFK, Conservative by Ira Stoll. It makes the argument that the man who is now hailed as a liberal icon by the left was not quite liberal at all, especially by today's standards.

Wilson was a trip and research of his (and Mrs. Wilson's) presidency is interesting to me.

Fallen Founder by Nancy Isenberg is a good read on Aaron Burr. Not a president of course, but an integral figure of the time. One of the few non-negative books on Burr.

Too bad you don't care for Truman but for anyone else who might be interested he wrote his own books about his time as president. Personal anecdotes, etc.

"Secret Lives Of The US Presidents" by Cormac O'Brien is a very good book. I found out things I never knew before in that book. A very good read.
