I did the WFH and WFCamp thing during the quarantine. I enjoyed it immensely for about a month. To each their own but I enjoy separation of my business and home. Plus I own the joint so if I don’t have meetings I’m liable to be in sweats and a hoodie, or jeans and a tshirt anyways

That seems like a great idea, my job is similar. Nobody does anything on Monday because it’s Monday and if it’s Friday it can wait until next week.

Are you not a fry cook anymore?

Sounds like you are a govt employee.

So many corporate bootlickers on this board. WFH for responsible employees is incredible. I don’t have to breathe fumes commuting to an office and listen to my coworkers talk about their stupid lives. I can walk into my home office, get my work done, and spend more time with my friends and family because I don’t have a commute.

That’s what evenings and weekends are for. I know a lot of people that use their commute to catch up on podcasts and have some alone time in their car to clear their mind.

Never been a fry cook and no I don’t work for the government. You must have me confused with someone else.

This is the problem. As I’m about to retire, the work culture has drastically changed over the past twenty or so years due to technology.

When you were off, you were off. No cell phones. No calls. No emails. No text messages. You were off and present at home. Whatever the hell it was, once you left the door at the office, that was it and it had to wait until the next day.

Now, you’re constantly available. More so, you’re constantly EXPECTED to be available. People burn out. I get it entirely. It’s ruining people’s personal, family life. It’s burning people out. It’s adding to stress, anxiety, and such.

There is the possibility that I can get a call at any hour but I don't do Teams or email on my phone outside of business hours. I silence that crap from 4pm to 6am.

If it's an emergency call or text me because otherwise I won't see it until the next business day.

This is how I feel. I come home from work and just want to chill and cook dinner.

I don’t want my work on my dining table or in the next room. I try to keep those separate. I’ll always prefer to be on sight for a job.

I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. AI is coming for most jobs.

This is expected when you work in an office as well and the same problems with burnout exists there as well. Get a better argument. Burnout exsisted long before work from home or cell phones.

Easily over an hour a day when there are a bunch of us in the office. Probably more.

i've wfh for 10 years. i'm a technical sales engineer so most of my work is dependent on my company doing sales.

one day this week i went in to the "office" at 7:45, was working, helping customers, bored in meetings, until i told somebody i had to go (to poop) around 12, then had to get back on for a 12:30 meeting and was done around 3.

another day this week i did all the laundry and cleaned the house while the family was at school and took 2 calls while i played fortnite on another screen because I legitimately had nothing to contribute that that meeting.

another day i got lunch for my wife and kids and took it to them and got beer on the way home. that same day i worked till 6 PM on a legitimate crisis.

it has it's ups and downs. i can get distracted or caught while out of the house, but i've been with the company long enough that they know i am working and if i'm out dicking around i'll take care of it when i get back.

on the other hand, another employee yesterday got caught "WFH" when he didn't have permission to that day and was sleeping through the day. he had been given a task to do at 9 AM, didn't do it and then when my boss called at lunch it woke him up, he acted like he couldn't do it without my help and didn't know what was being asked. i was out of the office (at a legit lunch break my boss knew about) and said, sure, i can help. he went back in the office because he knew he was in the wrong and i zoomed with him when i got back and said here you go, this is how it's done (like i've showed you a dozen times before)

this prompted my legitimate crisis from yesterday afternoon. my last unanswered text from him at 5:50 was "hey i don't know how to do this and Boss said we had to have it done before end of day. Can you get on zoom and help me?"

that shite is why i get to WFH every day, and he doesn't. i'm not special or better than, but some people can't be trusted with it and i get it. my boss says asses in offices and i'm not going to argue.

Most Chase branches around here have replaced the majority of their staff with machines.

So it’s cool to replace a human with a machine, but not let a human work from home?

Other than being on sales calls where I barely have much to contribute, I love the job.

I will say I’m also a post-sales engineer as well and do installations that involve travel. That helps the balance of slow days.

I have a WFH job and I'm burnt out on it as an individual contributor. I had a good run of 3 years but I need to be back around people.

I'm actually moving back into management and will be responsible for about 40 people. So this is jumping back into the deep end of the pool for me.

I enjoy the family flexibility of WFH. If my kids sick, I can just be daddy day care but I've got to get back to advancing my career. I been treading water for a while now and it's impossible doing that in my field WFH.
