No yearly fee for 2 day free shipping. Amazons next move?

quote:

On Tuesday, Walmart announced a new initiative that will see 2 million frequently ordered things like baby products, cleaning supplies, and some food items enjoy two-day free shipping. And unlike Amazon Prime or Walmart’s previous “Shipping Pass” program, there is no membership fee to enjoy this perk.

What I read on Walmart's site this morning was that you had to spend $35. How is that better than Amazon?

Continue to offer a better costumer service and a broader product availability than Walmart while offering a music and movie streaming service and a Kindle and book library service while not worrying in the least bit about Walmart?

Will buy some toilet paper online now. I don't like buying toilet paper. Makes me feel like everyone thinks I'm holding one in.

I don't know about anyone else but it isn't the common purchases I'm having shipped home, it is typically the stuff that is a pain in the arse to buy in the store because of stocking issues.

The common stuff gets bought st the store because I typically need it right now as opposed to two days from now.

No next move needed. Amazon isn't worried about penny pinchers who will fumble around that trash website.

I haven't found Amazon consumer products to be much of a savings. We typically go to Sams 3 or 4 times/yr and it's cheaper getting that stuff that way. I use Amazon like others said for stuff I'd have to go NOLA, BR to find or stuff that I can't get around here at all... english shaving products, specialty hardware, replacement parts, food products from other places, etc. Wal Mart isn't gonna stock all that stuff

Wally's online shopping and scheduled pick-up is pretty bad-assed...except for the ridiculous "substitutions" they pull...and having to go to Kroger anyway for Boar's Head ham/rb etc.

Can make someone else do a two-hour/ double-cart grocery trip, leaving Ms. 19 plenty of sammich making time.

I wonder what the critical mass point will be for Wal-Mart and/or Amazon to deliver their own items?

Yep. You know what WMT has that Amazon doesn't?

4600 stores.

40 major DC's.

Another 40+ perishable DC's.

If they can find a way to use each location as a ship point...
