I am not the happiest Amazon customer right now, but this is what they have...
I wanted a nice pair of crimping pliers. Napa charges too much for everything, Autozone charges too much for junk. Ebay can't guarantee that it will get it to me in two days. Walmart (right now) won't even tell me how long it will take for the 3rd party that sells something comparable to get to me. But in 3 clicks and 2 days these will be at my house for $12.91 (plus tax now).

The point is that Amazon offers (or used to) free 2 days shipping on all orders over $25, regardless of Prime membership. They had that before Prime was even a thing. If that is still their business model then Walmart is offering less to its customers than Amazon since they are asking you to spend $10 more.

There is no annual fee with Walmart.
They are two different companies. Walmart is a profitable company (more sales than expenses) whereas Amazon is a growth company (more expenses than sales). Eventually, Amazon will be graded on how profitable they can be.
Of course Amazon provides all this cool stuff (music, streaming); but eventually they will have to figure out how to make it profitable to sustain. Their retail business (so excluding AWS) hemorrhages cash/expenses right now.

I just had a few orders with Amazon messed up over the last month.
I bought my wife a Paper White for her birthday, paid extra for shipping and order placed on Thurs to arrive on Fri. They bumped my order to Monday and the cover still hasn't arrived.
I had a 1/4 zip that is still missing from before Christmas.
I call and told them since they started collecting taxes, shipping was the only real benefit. I have access to multiple services for cloud storage, music, movies, etc. and all for less than $99.00.
They offered a refund on the 1/4 zip, a month of additional Prime and a $10 credit. That was all they would offer to keep my business.
She also said I have rec'd too many packages to get a refund on Prime.
I am starting to think that Ebay for specialty items and I can source everything else. They really don't offer much in savings, they aren't cheaper. I do still like their guarantees and return policies though.

Wal-Mart came out ahead. They tend to be cheaper on stuff like detergent, toilet paper, food etc and not by just a nickel or something. They also mention that for many food items, Amazon requires a membership to Prime Fresh or Prime Pantry as well.
I'm not the happiest with Amazon anymore as almost nothing is truly 2 day shipping anymore. I've had Prime items take a week and I have 3 or 4 warehouses within 20 miles of me here in Dallas. Sure they'll offer me a free month of Prime if I take the time to contact them, but I'm finding I'm using them less & less.
