Don't call me poor for not leaving a to go order tip. That isn't the norm. I leave 20% tips when i eat inside. I had terrible service last night at Sammy's, terrible, enough to not want to eat there again, and i still left a 15% tip.
I still think the tip system is absolutely stupid.
I think it's retarded that i can eat at Flemings for $200, and have to leave a $40 tip, or i could eat at outback for $40 and leave a $8 tip. Did the service at Flemings for that hour really warrant $28 more than at Outback. Did the Flemings waiter refill my drinks better, or take my order and bring my food out better?
Im not saying I disagree with you at all...but just to present another viewpoint..Flemings is probably paying their staff much more and are much more selective with their hiring practices. That waiter at Flemings probably worked at Outback for a few years before accumulating enough experience to be considered at a high end restaurant. You probably wont have to worry about your waiter putting in the wrong order or forgetting about your table for 30 minutes. You might have an outstanding waiter at Outback..or you could have a really shitty one. At Flemings, you are pretty much guaranteed to have a good experience.
Another thought...a restaurant like Flemings probably has more front house staff. Your waiter might be serving three tables instead of six tables like he would at a cheaper place. *(I know nothing about waiting tables) Hence, your service is probably much better.

Maybe
But the challenge of waiting tables isn't taking and putting in the orders so much as it is the timing of everything

Never call out a customer that is keeping your employer in business or you may be looking for work as your employer needs the customer more than you.

Yeah, apps have been around for a decade or more and restaurants haven't budged on table service
I could see a concept open up that appeals exclusively to a tech-oriented dining experience, but it will never be the norm.

Her transaction was declined? Or did it go through? Weird how they would just let her leave with almost $800 in food if she couldn't afford the food, no?

Unfortunately for waitstaff, that's false.

The church should have sent someone up with a tip afterward. It could have been $50 or some flat number but it needed to be done. If this were an individual throwing a party or something it would be different but the purpose of the Church is to be a light in the community and to serve the community
Do you know what was discussed when the Church called? I have no idea and neither did you. The Church may not have realized it until they saw the facebook message. When they called, had Outback already made up their mind, so the church didn't get an option to?

A church SHOULD be held to a higher standard and sometimes that means paying a little extra for a tip to smooth things over even when it may not be warranted.
1. This is crap. a church should be held to the same standards as every other customer.
2. You don't know what they tried to do or didn't try to do. Stop making assumptions.

The woman shouldnt have gone on facebook and made this public...but it was the responsibility of the Church after it was done to show some grace....you know kind of how Jesus shows us grace despite us not deserving it.
The church already said they didn't try and get her fired. Stop talking out of your arse here to make the church seem bad.

they have taken off at chick fil a and national pizza chains

I don't tip at Chickfila or Burger King, but the customer service is worlds apart.
No one is waiting on you at Chick Fil A or Burger King. There's a lot of subjective qualities to being a server. How is your disposition? How good are you at remembering/writing down orders? How many times do you re-fill the sweet tea? How long do you wait before handing out the check?
The server is a lot more likely to babysit the customer if their take-home pay depends on it.

Last time I went they brought me my food. Brought me napkins. Sauce. Came and asked when I needed a refill. And they took the trash away to throw away for me.
The only difference between what they did and what a server at a restaurant does was I walked up to the counter to order instead of them coming to my table. Everything else was just like a restaurant.
Sooooooooo......

Fast food and pizza apps make sense
But table service? I can't imagine that ever being the norm
Like I said, maybe at a few huge corporate chains or in a couple of unique concepts

A takeout order that large would take forever to take over the phone and forever to wring up, box it, check it, and hopefully not all pay seperate although I wouldn’t be surprised. She would have basically taken out of service for half the evening to work on this order I would expect. And when she’s not waiting, she’s not making money.
So yeah not tipping was a shitty move. Maybe not 20%, but they should have left at least 10%.

Not if the employer fights it. I don't think she'll win. She was fired for good cause. The restaurant could lose an apparently lucrative customer due to her behavior.

I am speaking about the church holding itself to a higher standard. You are right though, I dont know what the church did or did not do afterward.

Imagine if your employer paid you well for a job well done and tips were non existent. Good/great servers would be paid accordingly, and poor ones would still make barely over minimum wage.
Lots of industries use this model.

Sounds like they accepted a full refund
Most megachurches are crooked as frick

The irony is that there are a lot of servers who would love the consistency of a steady paycheck a lot more than just hoping they don't get stiffed.
The current system has its pros and cons for servers and guests alike - the owners are the ones benefitting across the board.

Church should have not Accepted the refund and also advocated for her not to be fired.

1) You should tip for a large to-go order (anything more than for two or three people eating).
2) Lots of people do not know about tipping for to-go orders.
3) Massive to-go orders like this one are usually picked up by a runner, not by the person paying for the order.
4) Churches are notoriously bad tippers.
She was due a tip, but she shouldn't have been surprised by being stiffed. People stiff waitstaff and bartenders on to-go orders more than anything else.
