How much?

I can enjoy a $30 bottle of Elijah Craig just as much as highly sought after and over priced bourbon.
Exactly. It's always in stock too. Except for the toasted.
I like an expensive pour of bourbon to start out with but if I'm going to have 5 or 6 or be drinking it all night with friends I'm going for a $30 bottle of Elijah or a Michters. If people are honest with themselves, it all tastes the same after 3 or 4 glasses.
Bourbon has become a status symbol now and guys find a bottle of Blanton's and snap a pick of it in their lap sitting in the driver's seat so they can immediately post it on Instagram for a "look at me" "look how cool I am" Pic. It's really gotten out of hand.

The state distributors?
If so can confidently say no in NJ

Last May, I went on a Wednesday and there were about 60 people in line when the gift shop opened. Blanton’s was limited to 1 bottle per person until they ran out. They have a limited quantity on hand each day. The guy in line in front of me brought his wife and her sister. He walked out with 3 bottles.

Sure, there’s a value argument to be had, but the whole “ain’t no difference in that shite and my jack daniels” shtick is BS.

One thing to remember also w line at distillery. They make you show your drivers license not only for age verification but also bc you are only allowed to buy one bottle of that days allocation. Say that bottle is Blantons… you can’t buy a bottle of Blantons again that the distillery for 90 days. They do this to discourage resellers from coming everyday.
“Buffalo Trace Bourbon is limited to one bottle per visitor, per day. Subject to availability, all other whiskies are limited to one bottle of each brand, per visitor, every 90 days.”

Blanton's is a pretty good sipping whiskey but for the money there's a bunch of other bourbons I would buy instead.

My go to for sitting and sipping. Even at 100 proof it doesn’t really need a teaspoon of water. It’ll open it up a bit in a good scotch or bourbon glass but it’s smooth enough straight out the bottle.
In fact, I’m so inspired by this thread I’m going to get a wee dram and mix metaphors.

I went to a wedding 7 years ago, eagle rare was the well bourbon at the bar. It is absurd how much the artificial scarcity of that is played up now.

Lol. That is why I asked.

Dirty secret - almost none of you (and especially the blowhards on the whiskey thread on the food and drink board) could even come close to passing any blind taste test of bourbon (or any other hard spirit).
This is the real truth right here. Everyone that claims they are a “bourbon guy” but can only name buffalo trace products as “the hood stuff” are wanna-bes. There is so much good bourbon out there that people walk by and turn their nose up at, ignoring anything else that’s currently on the shelf. Those people have no idea what they are talking about.
Sure I have expensive stuff, but most of those were gifts. I put Russell’s reserve 10 and 13 up against almost anything that isn’t some super rare 20 year aged juice. 10 is $35 on almost any shelf and 13 shows up most months on shelves as well.

Congrats you linked an article, I work for the distributor and represented Sazerac directly. They’re suing to sue to try to cover their losses from the Fireball lawsuit.

If Russell’s 13 shows up for you on shelves every few months I’ll buy it off of you in a heartbeat. No shot that’s the case.

People spending 100 to 200 on their bottles consistently as opposed to say once a year are just trying to be cool and show off. In reality, they are wasting money and do not know what they are doing.
Posted on 2/12/23 at 8:18 am to the4thgen
Exactly. 10 years ago I was buying eagle rare or buffalo trace at the grocery store regularly for sub $30 a bottle.

I remember tailgating at the 2014 Music City Bowl drinking Weller from a plastic bottle. I think it was sub $20 a bottle back then.

The problem is the assholes who show up with their wife and sister to get 3 bottles of liquor and then in turn hoard it. By what you need when you need it when you’re almost out buy some more. Leave those two bottles of bourbon in the consumption chain instead of in your garage.
