Calm down Hank hill some of us like to not be poors.
People should leave jobs that do not pay well or provide QOL. Most people do not understand that they can influence the business landscape by going to these places. The other businesses will either adapt or shut down

Yeah, workers should definitely show loyalty to be rewarded with things that don't exist.
it does exist for certain companies.

How many private companies do you know of that have a pension plan?

The idea of job hopping got a little too mainstream. The LinkedIn vlog types have been pushing this narrative on young people for a while and they think it's the only way.
A friend of mine sent me an article recently saying you need to switch jobs every 2 years for the the best wage growth, and he was singing it's praises. He's constantly job hunting and doing interviews. Sounds exhausting.
I'm all for doing what's best for you, but perhaps there's a good career avenue of just focusing on where you are and moving up? If you aren't getting where you want to be in 4 or so years then yeah maybe start looking elsewhere.

Good. More people need to show loyalty to their company. Get there on time and shake your bosses hand. Get your pension. Attend the company picnics.
Amen. And don’t forget to collect your social security checks

few and far between.
but to say it doesn’t exist is silly.

The same people whining about pensions are the ones who "want their SS paid out in a lump sum" so they can put it in a 401K.
My forgone pension is in a 401K.
Pensions now would be a morass of bullshite given the 10 employers people have over their careers.

I know it's sarcasm, but you are expected to give two weeks notice, as a courtesy. I didn't see two weeks notice given to the lay-offs of 20+ year workers.
I am a loyal employee (I was at corporate all weekend, working), but my Dad, who worked his entire career at Dow, always reminds me - "They don't love you. If something better comes along, take it."

The old pension system is what crippled many state and local governments.

This has been a trend for a few months now...
I believe it will continue, and accelerate.
Companies overhired and tolerated poor performers.
That's changing.

Underfunding the pensions and borrowing against what was in it to increase spending 100x is what crippled the governments, not the pensions themselves

I was a job stayer and I should have left. Worked for a company that treated me like dog shite because the pay was good. Eventually they let me go like I knew they would and I was forced to switch. I found a much better company and position as a result.
