I hope you, Sharon Broome, Chauna Banks and Gary Chambers all enjoy your Pyrrhic victory.

Congrats!

Libraries are monuments to an obsolete irrelevant system. They don’t even teach the Dewey Decimal System in school anymore.

Public libraries are a luxury, not a necessary function of government. And they were created in an era when books were expensive and hard to come by for the average joe.

That's rich coming from the guy who was caught pimping tax policy he knew nothing about. You had no idea it would cause property tax bills to increase, and you had no idea what millages we were currently paying. Yet you took to this forum to grandstand for something you were ignorant of, yet again.

didn’t someone say that over 60% of “general parish taxes” come from Baton Rouge? If so, isn’t it a touch misleading to cry about the “72%” without noting that we’re talking about a relatively small difference in ratio?
When the math starts getting fuzzy, it’s time to start voting “No”.

Besides, I’d bet that 60% talk is comprised of businesses and not taxpayers who feel the burden of excessive taxation personally.

Property taxes COULD go up even with the Thrive Plan being rejected by voters.

"Rolling forward" property tax millages is up to the boards of the agency having dedicated taxes.

If Thrive had passed those boards COULD have voted to roll forward their millage rates to the level voters had already given those agencies in prior property tax elections.

I'm surprised a property tax expert like you claim to be doesn't know that.

I know exactly how many mills of property taxes I'm currently paying.

You're always calling out other posters for being deceptive, yet YOU are the poster who has used at least 3 screen names because you keep getting banned and then you make an alter so you can keep spewing your lies and making personal attacks.

You asked for "links" to basic facts you should have known before pimping THRIVE. Don't insult us with the "COULD have" garbage. You were wrong. Deflect on me all you want. Like I said before, even if I'm a dumbarse, I've caught you in lies and proven you wrong repeatedly. What does that say about you?

Black voters had a relatively high turnout in early voting, and the numbers show they were largely against all three Thrive measures, said Baton Rouge-based political analysist John Couvillon. “That vote only went about 35% for the tax proposal,” he said about early Black voters. “That was kind of the challenge that the mayor-president had in getting the tax passed.”

And it doesn’t matter. They are just going to keep putting it on the ballot until it passes.

It was pretty sleezy how the plan was put forward to vote on. He gambled and lost big time. Just like Broome.

It’s actually entertaining how THRIVE’s entire campaign relied on a belief taxpayers would accept any proposal if the library’s funding was threatened.

The next proposal will be fascinating to see if the majority of homeowners would rather save their money and just let the libraries die.

Russian is right- those celebrating this are in the same camp as Sharon Broome, Gary idiot Chambers and freaking Chauna Banks. I’d freaking shoot myself if I shared political views with those brainless troglodytes. But yay! We won!

They are only celebrating because they want North BR to get parish welfare, and anything that doesn't accomplish that gets voted down. Their perspective is superficial and has nothing to do with the (at least slightly) informed rest of the parish denying THRIVE for a multitude of credible objections.
