Watched a segment on CNN this morning about a guy who's "defending" a couple of houses, trying to put out fires started by ejected "lava bombs" striking them. Well, he got hit in the leg by a lava bomb and is now in the hospital.

If you have ever watched "Buying the Island-Hawaii" on cable, there's an episode where all the people are looking for cheap land with houses right near where the fissures are now.
There's a house close to the ocean with a hot water pond, one house surrounded by cooled lava and one inland with grass and stuff.
The episode mentions that people have chickens because the cost of eggs is so high. Also shows where each of the looked at houses are on the map that shows relative levels of danger from volcanic eruptions. ( We really liked the couple who were looking, and who had been living in a tent until they saved enough money to try to find a house.)
Some maps showing advancing lava day by day

Don't want to land in Commanche Sky Park.
Or in Nashville, Tennessee (no no no.)
Don't want to land in no San Juan airport.
Or the Yukon Territory (no no no.)

Does the lava flying around always look like it is in slow motion to anyone else? Pretty cool.

Wild to think that is rock.
fricking rock that is so hot it is a liquid.

How cool would it be to be able to harness some of that energy?

From the link: Does one major volcanic eruption generate more climate-altering gas than that produced by humans in their entire history?
So all you read was the clickk bait portion?
quote:
the world’s volcanoes, both on land and undersea, generate about 200 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) annually, while our automotive and industrial activities cause some 24 billion tons of CO2 emissions every year worldwide.

And its still bullshite. How can you measure what a volcano spews?
Read the article and you'll find who does the research. Then, look up their documentation.
Just bc you dumb, don't mean there ain't be a way

And some of those videos show it flowing like a river. Think about that for a sec...rock...flowing like a river.

There's actually a geothermal plant right next to these fissures.

The show is dumb for a lot of reasons. On the big island, there are goats, donkeys, and all sorts of animals roaming wild. It has nothing to do with the price of eggs. They would have milk cows too if that was the case.
I’m speaking from the fact I lived there not some stupid show or opinions.

You build around it and it becomes a living lab and tourist attraction

I had thought the chickens were to try to keep the insect populations down. (And fresh eggs cook different than store bought.)

In all seriousness, though, I can't fathom the nightmare it's going to be to rebuild the infrastructure after this is said and done.

Then there's this:
Nope
quote:
Late last night, the fissure 20 lava flow reached the ocean. Hot lava entering the ocean creates a dense white plume called "laze" (short for "lava haze"). Laze is formed as hot lava boils seawater to dryness. The process leads to a series of chemical reactions that result in the formation of a billowing white cloud composed of a mixture of condensed seawater steam, hydrochloric acid gas, and tiny shards of volcanic glass. This mixture has the stinging and corrosive properties of dilute battery acid, and should be avoided. Because laze can be blown downwind, its corrosive effects can extend far beyond the actual ocean entry area.
