Kilauea has been erupting almost continuously since 1983. Some times are more flashy, but lava has been coming out of that hole in the ground for 35 years.

cool, so this may last a while?.....I dont want to miss anything...seems like I've been out of the loop for 35 years

The guy talking is a reporter. He doesn't live there. Rusty the Rooster, however, does.

Yeah, it's not going anywhere. If it follows the pattern from the last few decades and doesn't go to sleep or detonate (I think it's unlikely with this type of volcano), it'll pour more lava out and put on a show for a few weeks/months, then it'll just scale back to more of a "slow ooze" type of eruption instead of "giant flying rocks and plumes of ash and liquid magma" for a few years until its next episode.

The camera is at the house. It's currently pointed at fissure 20 but every once in a while they pan over to 17. 20 is erupting in a fountain but 17 is spattering.


This map shows where everything's at.

Who's up for a drinking game? Rooster crows...take a shot.
