I go to my grandparents graves every now and then.

In NOLA, it is customary with all the Catholics to do this on All Saints Day.

Visiting graves just means you miss them. I have brought flowers to Shelby Holmes' grave on occasion (murdered LSU fan a few years back)

I visit my wife's grave often. I place her favorite flowers, talk and pray. Miss her all the time.

Anyone here do this? I know some people bring Flowers out to the grave on birthdays or anniversary of their death etc..

I for one can't Stand graveyards but I understand why some do it. Just not My scene.

There's big money in dying.

That's from a movie I think but true none the less.

It's in my will to have me cremated and scattered wherever is appropriate. I'd prefer if I was scattered near my wife's grave.

Getting dusty in my office.

I doubt that it's something that younger people do unless a spouse, parent or child dies prematurely and they go there to grieve.

But it seems normal to me for anyone of any age to visit the gravesite of a spouse or child who has passed away. I can see how people would find it therapeutic to grieve there, pray there and visit with their memories there.

Yes. I know it's mostly selfishness for my benefit more than his but I need to talk sometimes. Usually once a quarter on average for the last 23 years. He was a brother I never had and died at 24. I think about him every single day, which I can't really explain why but I do.

I haven't visited my Dad's grave in about 5 years. It hurts too bad to go there.

My Dad died back in 2012 and I have been probably 4-5 times since then to his grave. It just makes me uncontrollably sad. My wife used to all the time tell me to go, until she went with me one time. Its too hard for me.

Found out something new about cremation in La. All living siblings, or spouse - if living, must sign off to have a parent cremated.

I do this. I visit my parents' gravesite a few times a year. Sometimes on an occasion like Mother's/Father's Day or Christmas or birthday. Sometimes just when I need a moment to feel closer to them because I'm missing them more at that particular moment. Personally it makes me feel closer to them because it's where the physical bodies were laid to rest. I believe their souls are gone and in Heaven. But, I always leave new (artificial) flowers and put the old ones on another grave where there are none. My grand-daughters lost their mom (my stepdaughter) over 7 years ago. We take them a couple of times a year to put out flowers and they always leave a note next to her headstone. It's a comfort thing, not something to overanalyze. That small effort has helped the girls deal with the death of their mother. It has helped them not to be afraid of what happened and to learn from her death. It also teaches them to be respectful of a gravesite, cemetery and people in general. One last thing is important to me. It makes me feel like I'm doing what an honorable son should do for his family. Paying my respects and teaching that to generations that go after me. That is just something that is in my core. Miss my Mom and Dad everyday, especially with Mother's Day and Father's Day approaching. God bless all!

Not my scene either but I haven't had a parent pass yet. My opinion might change. Seems like it would just make me sad.

My brother passed away about four years ago. I don't really see the point of going back.

Its a different kind of sad.... and it will pass in a few hours once you go back to the daily grind.
