What is your degree in? And don't you live in Abbeville?

May your company never find this is your opinion and put you in charge of hiring. You would clearly let some of the best and brightest graduates go to a competitor because of your ignorance. A smart person would say let's bring them all in and we'll take the best from both schools because we know the school is not what makes the degree/education, it's the person.

Academically, yeah it is. At least in the engineering college.
Of course there are departments where ULL has good programs that would compare with or even perhaps exceed LSU. But comparing the universities as a whole, ULL doesn’t even come close.

Not the point. A degree from any Lousiana State School confers a zero percent chance at a job like that. That was the crux of his argument. Doesn't matter how hard you work or your past work history. You would have a ZERO percent chance.

Business. Don't live there, from there.

Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Mines, BYU, W&M, Dartmouth, Fordham, Lehigh, Rensselaer, and Worcester aren't R1 either. Are those not in the same league as LSU? Georgia State, UAB, USF, VCU, and Wayne State are R1. Are those better than all of the ones listed above?

It's pathetic how you lsu people list how your cousin got a job in New York like its some kind of accomplishment
For every fruity lsu cousin that had to move to the big city just to find a job there's a dozen ull baws working circles around him in good ol Louisiana

Same industry, better firm
I find this extremely difficult to believe, more due to the ULL grad interview than anything else.

I don't see what the debate is in this thread. UL is a regional school which is made up largely of commuters. Subsequently, the strongest programs(engineering, nursing, etc) are good for graduates looking for those jobs in the region.
As the flagship, LSU has a more diverse set of programs, a stronger name recognition, and better funding for professors and research.
In a year I'll have degrees from both, and both are fine universities in their own respects. I don't see how this is such a hard topic to grapple.

As an individual, presumably a student looking for a school to attend....what advantage is there in comparing these two universities as a whole. While I do agree with your statement, there will never really be a situation where you would decide between the two schools based on overall comparison. So I don't really get your point.

A+ on that exam

I mean, not really. Good luck getting a job at Goldman Sachs or Blackrock or something with a state school degree.
That’s funny, because I have friends with LSU degrees that have gotten jobs at those companies and other top national firms.

NIH, you hear anything about the grad school program for project management at ULL?

Anyone who argues against what you've said has an agenda. The discrepancy is in funding and the ability to attract and pay nationally renowned professors. Though, this is far more important for graduate studies in liberal arts and hard sciences. ULL will never be able to compete with LSU in that regard. Still, as a Louisiana public on the national stage, the argument is akin to LSU being a GEO Prizm and ULL a Tracker. Sure, the Metro is more well known, the best GEO of them all! But it's still a fricking GEO.
If you have a degree and are successful then kudos to you. But all of this hubris about an LSU degree is ridiculous.

So nothing has changed in the past 20 years?

I have not. Going back for another one?

Allow me to translate:
Count: I'm lying through teeth and don't want to admit it, so that's why I won't admit that my degree is not really the reason I got the job. But, I'm not going to say what really got me the job, because that would prove the argument wrong.

Nobody is arguing any of that shite. It's the homers in this thread arguing that name recognition alone gets you a job if the degree is from LSU as opposed to ULL, Southeastern, or McNeese. That implies that no hiring manager gives a damn about anything but the college you went to.
For a first time hire just out of college, maybe that's true. But it still comes down to the applicant. Just because the guy has a degree from LSU doesn't mean he's a better candidate. Let's not act like LSU is Harvard, or Stanford, or Vanderbilt.
ETA: How the hell did we even go from buildings to recognition of degree programs anyway?
