Easter Weekend turned out to be a violent one in New Orleans.

Police are investigating eight separate shootings that took place across the New Orleans area over the holiday weekend.

The weekend's first happened in Central City on Saturday afternoon around 3:30, when a man was shot in the 2200 block of Toledano Street. He was taken to the hospital, and his condition is still unknown. Police have named 36-year-old Joshua Neal as a suspect in this case.

Another shooting occurred late Saturday night around 9:30 in the 1600 block of North Claiborne Avenue, where police say a man was shot. He was taken to the hospital via a private vehicle and his condition is currently unknown.

Easter Sunday yielded more violence, as one person was killed and six more were injured in five separate shootings late in the day and into the evening.

The first Easter Sunday shooting occurred around 5:30 p.m., when three people were shot in the 1500 block of North Claiborne Avenue. Their conditions are all unknown.

Two hours later a man was shot in the 2600 block of Allen Street. He was taken to the hospital where he eventually died.

About 20 minutes later a man was shot at the intersection of Mardi Gras Boulevard and Farragut Street in Algiers. That person was taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A little over an hour after that a man was reported shot in the 1800 block of Orleans Avenue. He was taken to the hospital by private transportation.

The violence began when the NOPD said that First District officers in the area heard shots fired and they located two men and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

EMS took them to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. There was no immediate word on what caused the shooting, a description of suspects or a motive.

Police say another shooting took place around midnight Monday morning, this one in the 7100 block of Florita Court. Police say a woman was suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to the hospital via a private vehicle.

Another Monday morning shooting took place around 5:30, this one in the 6200 block of Chef Menteur Highway in New Orleans East, where police say a woman was shot. EMS took her to the hospital to be treated.

Later, a third Monday shooting took place, this one in the 4400 block of Dauphine Street a little before 12:30.

Is it though? 9/9 of these shootings happened in high crime areas.. places any normal residents would avoid.
