This is correct. Takes a lot of time and money to get a $3 chick to a $250 layer, and yes it’s 4-6 months before they start laying.
I count my Americaunas every day. I may not count my Buffs.

Who steals chickens in this day and age? It’s the 21st century.
Well maybe not in Ville Platte

texas A&M graduate school project was to optimize chicken feeding.
first trial. chickens in cage were fed / raised for 6 weeks and total food provided factored with weight to give a bench mark.
second trial chickens in two cages were stacked, feeding only the top cage, second cages ate chicken poop. First cage met benchmark, bottom cage chickens were about 20% lighter.
third trial had 3 cages stacked following above protocol and after 6 weeks the bottom row were barely alive.
conclusion of the masters thesis was there is nothing lower in life than a third row chicken

Are you serious? $300 for a chicken?

Surprised their last names aren't Fontenot.

For a rare pure breed that’s started laying, yeah, they can go for that much.
Like an Ayam Cemani, where the chicks alone will set you back at least 50 bucks.

A 7th grader could easily think of this and execute the test.

Utah has a couple smuggling $300 million in oil and Louisiana has a couple stealing chickens. That clears some things up.

On a somewhat related note, i know the price of eggs has gone up but people talk about it like it affects them as much as gas prices. How many eggs do some people eat in a day for it to be that big a deal?
